Monastery of the Celestial Veil
The Monastery of the Celestial Veil is one of the oldest holy sites in the Kingdom of Gorundia. Nestled in a Fertile 'valley' (it is surrounded by low hills), it is most sacred to Merikka, despite her lower status in the Pantheon, she has pride-of-place, followed by the greater shrines of the Velari, and lesser shrines to the rest of the Oeridian pantheon.
The Abbess (there are Monks and Nuns present, there have previously been Abbots as well) holds all the lands equivelant to a Barony, which pays no tithes to the local nobles. Additionally, it has long been supported by House Amadis, as County Blackbriar is one of several regions that provide many of the devotees that take vows in the Abbey. It is very fertile land, and produces far more than it needs, exporting a great amount and providing charity to numerous villages as needed.
The primary caretakers and residents of the Abbey, come from two orders, monks of The Verdant Chain
And the Nuns Sisters of the Hearth, many of whom are either poor girls that volunteer for two to four years, or sometimes noble daughters that are in need of discipline. The elder nuns use patience and hard work to help them find their way. All are equals once they done the habit.
