Katherine Kendal

Katherine Kendal

“You can tell she was raised by a baron who knows the price of grain. She fights like she means it, not like she’s showing off for a ballad.” - Sorek Redmarch

“I was not born to curtsy. I was born to stand, shield raised, between danger and the innocent.”

  • **Full Name**: Katherine Kendal
  • **Age**: 17
  • **Height**: 5'9"

  • **Hair**: Dark brown, worn in a long braid
  • **Faith**: Daern, goddess of defenses and fortifications
  • **Allegiance**: Squire to Sir Beringer; House Kendal of Southmere
  • **Social Standing**: Daughter of Baron Cadaras Kendal

Appearance

Katherine is built like a warhorse and trained like a blade. Her form is lean and powerful, hardened by relentless drills and hammering discipline. Her expression is often unreadable, but never unkind. Beneath her reserved demeanor lies a young woman of unshakable purpose.

Background

Born the only child of Baron Cadaras Kendal, Katherine was expected to play the part of a courtly lady in the halls of House Vogel. Instead, she memorized the layout of the training yard and insisted on real armor for her tenth birthday. Cadaras, more merchant-lord than warlord, raised her with pragmatism and wit, knowing the House Vogel leash would tighten with time.   He chose his moment well—at the Brewfest Tournament, no less. When Wilhelm Vogel was up to his usual melodrama, Cadaras made his move: placing Katherine in the care of Sir Beringer, seasoned knight and quietly independent. It was a moment that left even the gossips speechless.
“If House Vogel had more like Kendal’s girl and fewer like Wilhelm, we’d be patching less dirt and burying fewer good men.” - Sorek Redmarch

Personality

Katherine is serious-minded and earnest, not one to flirt or preen. She wakes early, drills harder than most boys her age, and speaks rarely but with weight when she does. She has zero patience for wickedness, and zero tolerance for worshippers of Hextor or similar cruel deities.   Though raised to understand the artifice of noble courts, she has little affection for politics or pageantry. That said, she can hold her own in any salon or banquet—but if given the choice, she'd rather be sparring in the yard or oiling her armor.

Faith & Conviction

Recently, Katherine dedicated herself fully to the worship of Daern. The goddess’s ideals—defense, shelter, quiet strength—resonated with her deeply. She wears a small bronze token of Daern beneath her armor and offers prayers before every training session.

Relations & Allies

Despite her initial skepticism, Katherine has formed a slow and surprising bond with Blue Sylvanranth. While unimpressed by most halfbloods, she’s come to respect Blue’s effort, endurance, and surprising flashes of grace. The two may bicker, but there’s something real there.   She also holds growing admiration for Sir Beringer—not the court's romantic kind, but something sterner and more loyal. He treats her like a future peer, and she respects him fiercely for it.

Trivia

  • Has an iron stomach—she once ate questionable camp rations and asked for seconds.
  • Is surprisingly good at dancing, but only does so under the influence of strong drink and peer pressure.
  • Can identify fine wines but prefers ale, thank you very much.
  • Told Wilhelm Vogel to "kindly dismount your ego"—quietly, but loud enough for the bard to overhear.
