House Vallent

House Vallent

“Comfortable coin, middling blood, and just enough dignity to get invited to the nicer tables. Vallents know their place, but their daughter doesn’t.” – Sorek Redmarch
Status: Gentry class (below baronial rank) Holdings: Estate lands and trade rights in the southern wine-growing valleys of County Blackbriar Wealth: Considerable for their station; they trade in textiles, wine, and horse breeding Banner Allegiance: House Amadis of Blackbriar Known Members:
  • Lord Henton Vallent – Patriarch of the house, a practical and affable landholder who expanded the family’s vineyards and trade connections. Quietly respected by higher-ranking nobles for his discretion and dependability.
  • Lady Delia Vallent – His wife, a warm and doting matron who is fiercely protective of her children. Well-read, polite, and socially ambitious—though rarely oversteps her bounds.
  • Ser Alric Vallent – Eldest son, a disciplined and capable knight currently in service to Count Alistair Amadis of Blackbriar. Known for his quiet competence, loyalty, and attention to duty. He is often called upon for minor diplomatic or logistical tasks within the county.
  • Lady Lenira Vallent – Their youngest daughter and pride of the household, beautiful, talkative, and thoroughly spoiled. Seen by her family as a sparkling social gem—though others in court tend to view her as more of a glittering distraction.
Reputation: House Vallent is considered a prosperous and respectable family, despite lacking noble titles above the gentry tier. Their wines are well-regarded, their horses reliable, and their trade caravans well-defended. Their wealth has bought them access to better circles, but not higher rank—something Lady Lenira often forgets.   The family is well-liked by their tenants and peers, known for fair governance and generous seasonal festivals. Though not politically aggressive, they are socially present at most major functions within County Blackbriar and occasionally at the ducal court.
“The Vallents are exactly the kind of family you want as neighbors. Kind, generous, quiet. Until their daughter starts talking.” – A steward of House Amadis
Relationship with House Amadis: House Vallent has long served as loyal trade partners and support staff to House Amadis. Their son’s service to Count Alistair Amadis is seen as a point of pride. While House Amadis sees them as dependable and competent, they do not regard the Vallents as political players—merely useful retainers.
“They don’t want to rise above their place. They just want to make sure their daughter marries someone who does.” – Dame Venom
