Halls of the Dead

The Veil of Final Silence
**Deep in the endless dunes of the Sea of Dust lies a forgotten gateway to the Halls of the Dead, where the souls of the fallen are judged under the watchful eye of Wee Jas. Here, the Lady of Death and Magic maintains order, ensuring that all spirits reach their proper fate. Yet, even in death, there is conflict, for Nerull, the Reaper, forever seeks to unravel this balance, clawing at the boundaries of the underworld to claim what is not his.
Discovery and Lore
- The Veil of Final Silence is an enormous obsidian archway, half-buried in shifting dunes. Its surface is covered in glowing red Suel glyphs that spell out the laws of death in Wee Jas’ name.
- It is said to be the only known entrance to the Halls of the Dead, where souls linger before their final judgment.
- The Halls themselves are described as an endless necropolis, a city of the dead where spectral figures wait their turn for judgment under the watchful eyes of Wee Jas’ servitors.
- Some claim that time does not pass in the Halls in the same way as in the mortal world. A soul trapped too long may find centuries have passed upon their return.
- Scholars of the occult warn that not all souls rest easily. The deeper one travels, the greater the risk of encountering those who have been lost to Nerull’s grasp.
- Before entering, travelers must face the Silent Judge, an ageless, faceless figure that ensures only those with a proper claim may pass through the Veil.
- There are rumors of living mortals returning from the Halls with the souls of the dead, but such stories are often dismissed as myth. The gods themselves have decreed that the dead should remain in their place.
Known Challenges
- The laws of death are absolute, and those who seek to challenge them risk drawing the attention of forces beyond mortal comprehension.
- No soul may leave without proper justification, and even then, the price is often greater than anticipated.
- It is said that some who have entered the Halls have never returned, their bodies found lifeless at the foot of the Veil.
- Though Wee Jas maintains order, Nerull’s presence lingers in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to claim what is not his.
