Lemuralia & The Feast of Lanterns: Chapter 12 - The Last of the Lanterns 12.9.20

General Summary

Gathering Allies

The night of festivities wears on, and after seeing the strange apparitions of their quests, the heroes are disquiet and gather to discuss before the night is out. A slightly hungover Kona appears at their door and tells them she believes in them, and wants to help not only save Summershaw, but convince Ivor to help. Vandre tells her they don't need Ivor's help to succeed but would gladly take any assistance they can. She is apologetic for not trusting the part sooner, but sees they are good people. As she walks off, smoke is seen in the distance and before long, people are running from the Church of the Failing Sun's light, it is ablaze!

Desecration

The group arrives just in time to witness a full squad of Easterling Knights, Goblins, and Talwart backed Dragon Circle Worshipers slaying the Ivory Congregation in the middle of their own church. The heroes spring to action, Araphant scaling the pews and hacking down scores of goblins, as Roderick and Tir tear into the knights. It is a bloody and long fight, and when they are victorious, the church is still on fire, as the remaining congregation cast about to put down the flames. Isador, their leader, swears an oath of fealty to the group for saving her people, and vows to send whatever men she can to help them defeat Balcoth in Summershaw

Float On

In a quiet moment on the Ameslan River which runs through the middle of Anghor Thom, the townsfolk gather for the final part of the ritual. They light paper lanterns that slowly rise into the air or some, like Sheriff Ivor, set down small wooden boats to float down the river. The group finds him there in the morning, and have one last conversation with the militia leader before heading off. It is a pensive moment, surrounded by crying and solemn villagers, the heroes discover a bit more about the pensive Sheriff, his lost family that he still mourns, and his half-brother Tyvor, who Ivor insists cannot be trusted. While appreciative of the heroes' help, Ivor informs them he will not be sending anyone to help Summershaw. Instead, he's convinced his brother is up to something and will send a contingent of militia to secure Anghor Dum. These dark tidings foreshadow a possible civil war in Anghor, and absent the Baroness Ellana, there is little hope it can be averted.

One Last Errand

Before finally leaving, they gather their supplies and head immediately to McCreary's Parlor, after having Eschelon forge the Westerly Wood deed and giving the real deed back to his widow of course. With the true documents in her possession, she and her family are secured. After a tense standoff at the threshold of McCreaery's abode, Araphant threatens the guard and barges in to secure the Ancient Anghor Translation book. With it in the party's possession, they tell McCreaery and his goons there's a reckoning coming. For his part, the goons and their leader welcome the confrontation. The heroes bid Anghor Thom farewell, and embark on the journey back to Summershaw, and the final confrontation with Balcoth's army.
