Lemuralia & The Feast of Lanterns: Chapter 10 - Return to Attercrop 12.9.20

General Summary

Return to Attercrop Cave

Upon their approach, the merry minstrels are greeted by a harras of riding horses tied to the flooded mouth of the cave. It is obvious someone has entered and yet with the flooding waters coming down from the melting snow in the above mountains, there is little to track or investigate. Once they toe into the cave proper, they are greeted with an eerie unsettling that they had not felt the first time they traveled here months ago. Sloshing through knee high water, they hear the scuffling of something alive, and shortly later, dead bodies floating as the water got deeper.

Anghor Merfolk

The party splits up, and Araphant, Ho-Gun, Roderick encounter half-man half-fish people with large spears, and in the flurry of a first encounter, battle them, defeating some and scattering the rest. Meanwhile, Vandre, Eschelon, and Vargas find enchanted red crystals, glowing in the walls. They also encounter the merfolk, but instead realize they are semi-sentient. Through broken communication, they parlay the creatures to help them dislodge some of the stones, and let them go. Later, the party realizes the red stones repel the smaller spiders in the cave, though they are not sure what other properties they have.

Grim Discoveries

Further in, the heroes get the drop on a platoon of orcs who seem to be setting up traps, camps, and other indications of a permanent residence in the cave. Discovering a pair of new items in the cave, tasty large mushrooms for cooking and strange glowing blue stones which, when held, levitate the carrier a few inches off the ground, they defeat a large spider that they then use the stones to ease their heavy burden of transporting the creature back out.   In a treasure chest, the also find the deed to The Westerly Wood, Otto Dewfoot's documents that Grady McCreary were looking for. On a last investigation of the area, a horrifying room is discovered. Bound men and women, warriors all, felled in a massive pool of blood, their throats slit. A mass execution site, that once thoroughly searched, is revealed to be the faction of Smiling Hawks that didn't follow Saewen and instead fled back to Greator Anghor with Tieg. In fact, poor old Tieg is among the dead, along with the red haired Otto Dewfoot, all coming to an untimely and suspicious end.     Finally, nearly buried, they also find an ornate ivory handled blade, used to execute some of the prisoners no doubt. they take it, and leave this dark place behind.
