Session 12: Night at Leeka's Farm Report

General Summary

The party followed Leeka as she toured her ruined farm. Her old milk cow lay eviscerated in the field along with some of her goats. The dovecot has a gaping hole torn through the waddle and dab walls. As the group approached the house, a foul smell of offal hung in the air. Leeka, both wanting to go in and fearing what was inside, be it the creatures or just destruction of her simple life, turned to look at her new friends. Jericho volunteered to enter the house and make sure it was safe.    Immediately, Jericho finds the source of the stench. A shapeless mass of goo and ooze lies in the corner of the house, just to the right of the door. Interspersed in the.. whatever this is... are flakes of blue-black pearlescent material, almost like eggshells floating in a poorly cracked egg. Trying not to retch from the visual and olfactory impact, Jericho scans the near total destruction of the room's content. Furniture smashed, pottery broken, pieces of a life thrown about with no regard. The ashes and contents of the fireplace seem to have been blown out from it. In the edge of the ashes, a singular footprint, some 10" by 8" displaying three toe points and a singular back pad stands out clear as day. No other sign of what caused the destruction can be found.    Leeka finally enters and is saddened but not overwrought by what she sees. Once talk turns to food, she finds the unscattered remains of a jar containing ground corn meal and sets to making a small loaf of bread. Collecting small pieces of broken furniture, Leeka announces that the night will be cold and they should build a fire. She then fills a battered pot from the hand-pumped well behind the house and sets about making what will amount to the party's only meal today. Jericho checks out the dovecot and comes back with another prize - three unbroken pigeon eggs. Patch loses out on a coin toss and has to muck out the mass from the corner, eventually succumbing to the smell and vileness of it.   Night falls and a brilliant half-moon rises in a crystal clear night. The party takes up defensive positions and awaits the coming of the creatures. After all this time and build up, nothing shows. Finally, Patch spots movement down near the edge of the lake. Solid black silhouette shapes move with a bipedal gate, but hunched like old men. Too far to be precise in a count, they soon disappear into the woods near the south end of the fields. No more is seen of them that night.   Several hours later, two blasts are heard, gunshots echoing through the woods and hills, coming from somewhere in the south. After this, the night returns to stillness. The party decides to call it a night, huddling together in the upper loft of the farmhouse, the ladder drawn up behind them.    The morning dawns, crisp and dew filled. Plans are made to go see what has befallen others of Elmont's farms.

Notes

No one heard the screams from the Durn's farm as it was being attacked.    If the party goes to the Skree farm, they will find it attended by some of Elmont's farmers and militia.    If they go to the Durn's farm, they will find it recently attacked and can get some more clues about it.    The next farm will be the McCaws, who are hostile to Leeka.
