The Child

Faith of The Child is the dominant religion of the Phirean Dynasty that acts as the guiding force for the country. The religion started at the birth of Amon Phirean  and by the time of his passing it had become the largest religion in the area.   The faith has three main tenants that all followers are expected to live by:
  • Follow the law of The Child
  • Defend the Faith from heretics
  • Bring honour the Dynasty in your life
  • The first tenant tells people to obey the laws of the land to their fullest extent. As such, major crimes are extremely rare and almost always committed by foreigners to the Dynasties lands. Most of the laws are common knowledge, such as no violence against others without just and lawful reason, no theft etc. But some are more subtle, such as keeping a weapon on yourself at all times to defend the faith if needed or no drinking under full moons.   The second tenant teaches followers that violence against heretics is allowed and expected, for if someone attacks the faith, they attack the Dynasty and The Child directly. Many people visiting the area have lost their life to the headsman's axe or citizens in the street for commiting grand heresy.   The final tenant instructs people to act in a way that will bring honour and glory to the Dynasty in their life. Many people undertake public service at some point in their lives, such as working in a temple or hospital for the community. Farmers often donate surplus food to the national reserves, young adults join the guard service for several years with no salary. Richer merchants are expected to fund projects that better their communities and are pressured by the Church if they are assumed to be slacking in their duty.   The religion has been becoming more radical in the last 100 years under the newest Arch-pariah Shaneth Marret, a Drow man in his 4th century.   Followers of the faith are also expected to make a pilgrimage to the Temple of The Child at four points in their life. At their 15th name day, to symbolise their change from a child to an adult. When they marry, typically around 20-30 to seek The Child's blessing on their new family. At the birth of the 3rd child, who is to be offered to The Temple as a new student of the faith. And at the birth of the first Grandchild, to thank The Child for the blessings brought upon them. People who make this pilgrimage are expected to bring offerings to the temple each time and travel independently relying on the kindness of strangers on their journey.
