Standard Issue Legionnaire Sword
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The Legionnaire Sword is a basic longsword, and usually has no special properties. Due to the low quality metal made in Standard Issue swords, they are very difficult to enchant, whether during the creation process or after they were made.
Using leftover iron from the forging of other weapons used by the Legion, smiths forge a basic sword blade. Meanwhile, woodworkers will carve a simple handle out of wood imported from the elves to the east, usually leaving a slot to place the blade, making hafting easier. Then, once the blade has cooled, it is hafted to the handle using a leather strap tied tightly around the two pieces.
The Legionnaire Sword is a longsword that every member of the Golden Legion learns how to use in basic training no matter which branch they go into. The Standard Issue swords are just some crude iron hammer into shape to be sharp, and can be bought from the Legion by civilians to help fund the Legion. These swords are the only way for civilians to legally acquire metal weapons, outside of improvised cooking utensils. Higher-up legionnaires usually request a longsword more finely crafted, usually for a price, but these higher quality swords are in the same form as standard-issue swords, just more finely crafted and with better materials. These swords are mostly used by civilians in the Silver Kingdom and Agrara, as the other territories have their own traditional weapons.
