The Void Serpent

In dwarven mythology, the Void Serpent is believed to snake through the very veins of the world. The dwarves, with their deep connection to the earth, tell stories of how the serpent weaves through not only stone and earth, but through space itself, threading the physical and mystical realms together. The dwarves see it as the force that holds the tunnels of reality together, without, the world would unravel and chaos would ensue. In their worldview, the Void Serpent is responsible for all unseen connections, from the bond between warriors to the balance of the forces of nature. 
The serpent is revered as a guardian of secrets and the unknown depths of the world. Dwarven miners tell tales of seeing glimpses of the serpent when they dig too deep, feeling a tremor in the stone that is said to be caused by its scales rasping against the foundations of the earth. Such stories are often cautionary tales, warning against arrogance in thinking they understand the earth in its entirety.
The tales of the Void Serpent have come to represent the dwarves' understanding of the world around them, of the ideas of cause and effect and interconnectivity. They understand that the movement of rock also creates a movement of air, or that a decrease in the amount of ore available will drive up the price one is willing to pay to obtain it. 
Such is the fascination with the concept of The Void Serpent, that many an craftsperson in the dwarven realms has attempted to capture the true essence of the Void Serpent in their respective works, from grand bronze casts of serpentine beasts coiled around the spheres of the world or representations of the elements, to more abstract creations of silver where the physical voids of the sculpture form the shape of the serpent.
