The Mireclast
The Mireclast is a chilling entity of Belerion's deepest swamps, a creature that defies conventional forms. It isn't a single organism but an extension of the ancient bogs and marshlands - a sentient force of mud, moss and tangled roots that guards its murky domain with an unforgiving grip. Locals fear it as a living trap, a tar-like snare that ensnares any creature foolish enough to wander into its territory.
The Mireclast lies in wait, sensing vibrations across the waterlogged soil. When a creature enters its range, it stirs, sending out tendrils of thick, sticky sludge that snake towards the unsuspecting victim. These tendrils, almost plant-like in nature, wind around legs, hooves, or claws, drawing the victim down slowly inch by inch, into the mire. The more the creature struggles, the faster it sinks, as if the swamp itself hungers for their life force. As they are pulle deeper, a transformation begins - skin hardens, limbs stiffen, and a layer of rough moss and bark encases their form, slowing turning them into a petrified, moss covered statue.
Once the process is complete, the victim remains preserved in the bog, a twisted statue bearing a horrified expression, eternally locked in the grip of the Mireclast. Over time, these statues blend with the landscape, their bodies becoming indistinguishable from the gnarled trees and rocky outcrops, while their essence is absorbed into the swamp's ancient consciousness.
In folklore, the Mireclast is seen as both protector and punisher, a primal force that maintains the balance of life and death in the wetlands. Its presence is marked by errie silence and an unnatural stillness, and those who know of it dare not tread near its waters, lest they too become part of the bog's eternal tapestry.
It's said that on misty nights, the faint cries of the Mireclast's victims can still be heard bubbling up through the ooze and echoing through the swamp, a chilling reminder of the price paid by those who trespass in its domain.
