Bavan Culture in Bavo'Sand | World Anvil

Bavan Culture

The culture came from the struggles of the Republic, and the learning that how good someone is power can and will corrupt, if it is not watched and defended against. The Early Republic of the Sands was a place of learning and invention, with peaceful expansion by helping the groups around them. Over time expansions became less peaceful and more forcefully with the army and other forces, corruption set in with the members of senates went from elected from the skill and knowledgable population to the families of Senate members started electing within themselves. So over time the Senate families became hereditary noblity, this start the War of Traders, which routed out of the corruption of the senate, with help from the House Dak'ari, in time they houses became Kings but kings that they weren't herditary but based on worth, The previous Kings choose the next person who he felt was the most capable of ruling.   After the War of Traders, Mages started being suppressed original due to the damage caused by the magic during, suppressed started of as small things and over time became worst and worst, mages went from being equals to being unable to hold lands, own buildings or businesses and almost like they were Slaves. Another sign a corruption that happens without the guides put in place, The mages revolted with him from different groups within the city and took brief control of the city before setting up "The Republic of Bavo'sand" setting up the senate again with balance between the different factions from traders, noblity and the mages themselves.    So the city now as checks and balances in place, no single group as enough power to threat the others and between the different city police run by the Tower and the Noble House of Da'kari, who keep an eye on everyone including each other.   Change and Fortune   The Bavo’sand people believe that you can change your lot in life with luck, hard work and fortune. The gods don’t protect the nobility, it’s not a god-given right of the nobles to be nobles, but it shows great fortune for those who become the nobility and holds it. Nobility is a big prize in the game that is life. Possible the biggest prize that any Bavo’sand Native can achieve.   It’s not the gods that reward the nobility but the people that do.    Nobility   Nobility, Wealth and Power is aspirational to the Bavo’sand people. They believe anyone though luck, chance, patience or hard work can gain those key things. Many cultures believe every man as his place, but the Bavan people believe every can be upward mobile.   Trade and Merchant   Within Trade and Business they believe in honest but sharp dealings, no Bavo’sand Native would outright lie to you but they can and do often walk a tightrope that some may think is over the line that the Bavan people tried to avoid, but only the Bavan people know where that line is actually and when they cross it, and when crossing it breaks the laws of the people and the gods.   Art and Artians   Art is frilelous unnecessary for the sake of art, but beauty and art within tools and buildings is key. A artistic building is seen as better than a functional building but if the artistic building is functional then its not a building, but skilled artisans held in high regard, bring beauty and function together.   Treachery   Deceit and scheming are seen as darkside of Bavan culture, gaining power via these could be classed as evil by the Bavan people.   Violence   Violence from the heart is better than planned violence, passion is better than cold blooded murder, yes they both break the law but Passion can be forgiven, planning a murder can never be. Letting hatred brews and make the final violence more deadly. Duals are common in Bavan, but rarely to the death, usually first blood, if someone insults you, challenging him there and then don’t let it brew. “Draw your sword, sir, or by Barbossa, I will cut you.”   Love / Passion   Love for the Bavan people is something that should be shared and publicised, not something to kept in the dark and privatised. If you in love, you should be shouting about it from the roof tops. Those you love you care for, and play pranks on, making your loved one laugh and happy is as important to Bavan people as the sharing of that love with others.   Travel   Bavan People as traders across dimensions have some of greatest magic and technology to allow such trade. Along with that they travelled and controlled the majority of Bavan Homelands around them, both by sea, land and air. There is no other civilisations left on the Bavan homeworld, the population that is left are all condensed into the City of Bavo’sand. With the rest of the small world left to nature and the wild.   Bravery / Cowardice   Cowardice is seen as dark trait, the Bavan culture has been about bravery in war, trade and exploration. This ties into the violence and passion of the heart. The coward is the person who doesn’t back up his words with action be that violence or love. Passion is natural and action should be passionate not calculated. Bavan culture is about passion and wits rather than planning and calculation.   Lore and Learning   Learning is important to both the House Elvan and the Crystal tower, The House Elvan fund multiple churches to Ioun and her saints across the city only Graen as more power in the churches to them. Learning is what made the Bavan people stand out from the rest of the peoples of the world, they advance faster in technology, lore and knowledge than anyone else allow them to expand and grow.   Justice and Law   Justice above all, The Bavan people are honest and lawful people in general. Due to the destruction that as happened from deceit and treachery over the years, the corruption of the Senate of the Sands, the Trader King brutal suppression of the mages. They see any dark emotions or actions however small may bring around destruction and pain to all. Aureo is worshipped by all, sees all and defends against all, both outside and within.
