The Laws of Bataf
The six heavens
The primal plane is surrounded by six heavens. the heaven of Air, Earth, Fire, Metal, Water, and Wood. Each of these heavens is the domain of a god and to its own breeds of celestials, elementals, fey, and fiends. The heavens are grouped into the warm planes and the cool planes. The warm planes consist of the planes of Air, Fire, and Metal, while the cool planes consist of the planes of Wood, Water, and Earth. Outsiders from the two groups often get into conflict with each other, and although they do prefer the company of those from within their plane they don't like them that much more either.
The Soul Sun and the Moon of Reincarnation
Around the main planet of the primal plane there rotate two celestial bodies in perfect unison. These are the Soul Sun and the Moon of Reincarnation. When a person dies on the primal plane their soul goes to the celestial body that is closest to the earth.
Moon of Reincarnation
When the Moon of Reincarnation hangs overhead their soul goes on a journey through the realm of the death before reincarnating as a new person. During this journey there are many dangers lurking in the shadows who desire to corrupt new souls and turn them into monsters.
Soul Sun
When the Soul Sun hangs overhead the soul will be sucked into a massive inferno where it is consumed by the sun. The sun uses the power of these souls to keep the world protected from evil and to keep nature from dying by basking the world in radiant mana. Those who try to cheat death avoid the sunlight as the Soul Sun while force their souls out of their bodies if it shines upon them. But no matter what in the end the Soul Sun will always have its due. People often pray for their dying loved ones to hold on till nightfall for fear of their soul being consumed by the Soul Sun.
Mana
Mana is that which forms the elementary essence of everything else in the universe. Mana grants every material its fundamental properties, which in turn gives everything from the laws of physics to the lonely scholar studying these law their property and allows them to be. Without the existence of mana the universe would enter a state of pure entropy, were every single thing is the exact same and incapable of interacting with anything else.
Most living beings survive and thrive by continuously exchanging the mana they hold with that of their environment. Mana is what allows creatures to be animated and which without they would be little more than static objects, incapable of growth or motion. Plants absorb the radiant mana carried by the sunlight, and derive their own mana from it, which in turn the animals absorb when they eat the plants and each other. Elemental creatures on the other hand survive by feeding themselves of the elemental mana contained in inanimate natural objects such as stone and water.
Some creatures have found a way to manipulate mana in a more controlled manner and use it for their own benefit, which is called the art of magic.
The seven component of mana
In nature it is rare to find mana its complete form, which is a called true mana or alternatively unrefined mana. It is a chaotic tempest of power which is nearly impossible to contain in high concentrations. True mana violently tries to interact with everything around it as it tries to separate and stabilise itself. In nature it is quiet common to find fractals of mana. Upon passage through a focus or conduit, the true mana is separated into its seven different stable fractals: Arcane, Corrosion, Elemental, Necrotic, Phonic, Psychonic, and Radiating mana.
Arcane mana
Arcane mana, sometimes also simply called energy, is what fuels most magical objects and beings. It can quickly be combined and be separated from other forms of mana which makes it suitable as a conduit for the art of magic. When arcane mana naturally splits off from true mana it surges in the form of electricity through the sky, unpredictably and sporadically zigzagging as it moves toward its target. In nature arcane mana is most commonly seen during thunderstorms where it strikes the ground with incredible power.
Corrosion mana
Corrosion mana is unique in that it actually tries to turn itself into True mana. When a material which contains corrosion mana comes into contact with an object which contains none the corrosion mana will try to absorb it and dissolve the object in an attempt to revert it back into its basic mana fractals. Most poisonous organisms use an rudimentary form of corrosion magic to create their toxins and venom. When corrosion mana somehow gets combined with arcane mana a living ooze is created.
Elemental mana
Elemental mana, alternatively known as Divine mana, is the fractal of mana that represents the influence of the six heavens of air, earth, fire, metal, water, and wood. Elemental mana is often wielded by priests and is believed to have been the fractal of mana that the gods used to create the world.
Necrotic mana
Necrotic mana is capable of containing and nullifying every other fractal of mana. Everything that lives slowly builds up necrotic mana in its body during its lifetime, which slowly drains them off their powers until their body becomes too weak to stay animated and they succumb to the necrotic mana, a phenomenon known as death. The undead are creatures which are re-animated by necrotic mana and some undead attack other living beings in an attempt to re-balance their own pools of mana.
Phonic mana
Phonic mana is a mystical energy which transfers information from one entity to another. A word spoken, a roar screamed, a punch dealt, a blow reflected, each of these actions is an interaction between two entities and contains an exchange of phonic mana. One of the most potent and constant forms of phonic mana is called gravity which is an constant exchange between the planet and everything ells. When a person jumps or a bird takes flight they sent a more powerful form of phonic mana to the ground than the planet applies to them, which as the mana disperses eventually will pull them back, this is also why powerful enough wizards can levitate themselves of the ground with a single incantation.
Psychonic mana
Psychonic mana is the power that transfers information inside an object itself and constantly chances its internal properties. when an object starts generating heat or an creatures starts to think, feel, or act it is channelling its inner Psychonic mana. Most creatures posses an inner pool of psychonic mana called Ki, which highly trained individuals can turn into a weapon by making it temporary change the properties of their bodies. Some Ki fighters might turn their fist as hard as steel as the deliver the final blow, or they might even transfer their own psychonic mana to their opponents in an attempt to overcharge and stun them.
Radiant mana
Radiant mana is a heavy and volatile form of mana. It reacts strongly with other types of mana, generating an excess of light and heat as it quickly mixes with the other mana fractals around it. Radiant mana's volatility makes it great for living beings to use as a source of power, but this same volatility can make a high dose of radiant mana lethal as the creature gets cooked from inside by the heat it creates. Undead are particularly vulnerable to these high doses of radiant magic as it reacts violently with the necrotic mana in their bodies.
Initial Active Setting
The initial size of the setting is the old world. This includes the main continent, the Wabu Islands, and Svellbjargheim.
