Bataf

Scope

The motivation behind building Bataf

"I was motivated to start a new world after I realised that, while I was being respectful, I was appropriating another culture for my world. So now I have started to write a world using only influence from cultures I have heritage from."

The goal of the project

"For now I hope to use this world as a basis for a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, but I also hope to later turn my work into either a novel or into a Setting Guide."

Bataf's Unique Selling point

"The unique selling point of this world is that I bring a world set in the lower countries instead of the traditional medieval england. I often try to avoid the typical trappings of fantasy as I have not grown up with fantasy and as a kid was more interested in prehistory and worlds such as Avatar: the Last Airbender."

Theme

Genre

"The genre I am writing this world in is fantasy, as that is the aspect I am most interested in. More specifically it is a high fantasy setting with a hard magic system. In this world magic is as much a part of physics as quarks are. The science of this world is on a same level as our own 17th century, with most nations employing Mauritian tactics such as pike and shot."

Reader Experience

"The feel I desire for my world is a sense of wonder and adventure. I try to accomplish this goal by combining attributes from various literary genre to create an unique mix that allows the reader to be surprised by what comes next."

Reader Tone

"The tone of the world is generally somewhere in the middle and can vary between bright and dark depending on the mood that is appropriate for the location."

Character Agency

"I believe that my player characters have as much influence on the world as their players are willing to take on."
