Session 69: Season Finale Part II
General Summary
After the shock realisation that the handwriting on the letter is her mother's, Rel is still mostly speechless. She doesn't want to go to the Watchmaster with this - certainly not with the letters from her mother and the one mentioning the Changeling that could be Elirith.
They head back to Haven together and congregate in Liv's little room to talk it through some more. Rel asks for some time, around 15 minutes. The rest head up to the bar to wait.
Rel goes to speak to Mesh about the conundrum. Mesh asks what she is - Rel says she's a Diplomat. Mesh reminds Rel that Diplomats don't concern themselves with what goes on up there. They can't save everyone, and innocent people die in the Wastes every day.
Rel says she needs to find her mother, and Mesh asks what she would do if she finds her and turns out she's, well, bad. Rel says if she's hurting innocents then there's only one option.
Up in the bar, Robyn gives Liv 1000g to keep safe in her room - after the issues in the Tundra, Robyn's wary of carrying so much on her person. Robyn still feels they should tell someone - not for them to get involved, but sitting on it doesn't feel right either. She's prepared to go to the Watch alone if needs be - she's worried about those from Haven getting wrapped up or stuck up in Bastion if the Watch takes umbridge to what happened.
Liv and Rel go to speak to Otho about what they found and who they should tell. Otho counsels to think of Bastion like a tree: the Council, Guard and Skirmishers are the roots. There's always bad roots, but you never know which ones are bad until you pull them up. Corruption is in all the places, and you can't know which branches need pruning. Otho advises discretion, but they hope she can find Elirith as she had spirit.
For Rel, Otho says that sometimes there are answers you might not want. Rel asks who brought her to Haven all those years ago - Otho answers it was Madam Shatay, the owner of the Subtle Smile. Otho says she is a good woman, and that they have known her a long time. Otho also advises that if the person who wrote those letters is Rel's mother, then she has hidden for a long time in a small city that is hard to hide in: you have to ask how and why.
Robyn heads home to get her bow and lute, heading to Sentinel's Tower with the intention of seeing Shatterstar, but she visits Quinn first. She asks to leave her lute with him, saying she may be poking the hornet's nest that caused it to get broken in the first place. He's unimpressed, and asks why.
She shows the notes and ledger - Quinn says he doesn't want to see that and pretends like he hasn't seen it. He tells her not to put herself in the crosshairs - leave it with the Guard to deal with, as its Guard business. He suggests just writing a letter and leaving it with them - Robyn is unsure about this but considers is as an option. Quinn reminds her - quite firmly - that she's promised to outlive him and not to do anything stupid.
Before heading back to Haven, Robyn heads down to the gate to see if she Stormwalkers had return. She meets Alexei and Jacob, new recruits to the Skirmishers - Alexei's a bit more chatty. He's carrying a fine looking scimitar on his waist that he said he made (Quinn had already eyed it up). He says the Stormwalkers were sent around to get into a flanking position on the creature, but that they should be back in 2 or 3 days.
Heading back to Haven, Robyn suggests they writen letters not in their handwriting and leave a copy with Sgt Danza and get another to the Watchhouse. Rel forges some letters with accounts in both, and they head to the courier in the Smithing District to get same day delivery on the letter - no guarantee it'll end with the Watchmaster as they're only allowed to get to the front desk. Robyn drops the second letter at Danza's house after making sure no one was watching.
They spend the night at Betrayer's Way as Penny wants to see if anything happens after they send the letters and be close to Shepherd's Rest in case it does kick off. Robyn checks the house for any other hidden doors - nothing; it seems that the Marshall was keeping his home separate from the Crook.
Nothing happens overnight. In the morning, Liv uses Sending to reach out to Elirith and gets through to her (as Xue). She is hurt and captured, with the Warforged guarding her.
- We think you're in danger. Are you okay? Where are you? If you can, change to Elirith, we're trying to find you. Are you alone?
