Intelligence Report: 10th Proviso 1524
Commander,
The information within is an account to the best of our knowledge, with some assumptions. It's likely you are already aware of much of what is in here pertaining to House Karlaith, but it felt best not to assume what could be relevant or redundant.
Sincerely,
Robyn Stormwalker
House Karlaith
Known threats in their control: Duergar, an undead dragon.
The Duergar appear to be in service of the Night Mother, and those we have encountered have growths on their skin and their arms split open into tentacles. Their condition appears to be a contagion of sorts; an ally of ours was gravely wounded by them and their arm was turning into the same growths before we removed their arm entirely to stop the spread.
The undead dragon is the brother of a black dragon who has a lair underground, north of The Deep (at least four days travel on foot North from Bastion including crossing the Deep; I regret I don't have equivalent geographical knowledge underground). The living dragon gave his name as Greshalthar, and claims that the magics of House Karlaith allow them to traverse the waters of the Underdark, and that the waters are deep and all connected. He claims to have never seen nor read of magics like that of the Night Mother.
According to Greshalthar, his brother had already perished from sickness* when drow of House Karlaith came through the water and claimed his body. He did not fight or make his presence known when they invaded his lair. It is not clear how long ago his brother died or when the body was taken.
Assuming Greshalthar and his brother are dragons of the same species, and that powers remain the same after being brought back as undead, the breath and damage that the undead dragon could be corrosive or acidic.
* [there is a note in the margin by this paragraph] Zua'garr linked to plague and disease, is it possible that the dragon was infected by Karlaith somehow before it died? Greshalthar looked unwell; risk of a second dragon in their control?
Archfey Ry'thera (Lich)
Ry'thera was an archfey of the Feyess' court, and believed to be a trusted member of her council. We first encountered him in the Feywild when we [there's a note by this edit that simply says "it's a long story"].
We believe him to be a servant of Zua'garr as we encountered him conducting a ritual at an altar bearing the carved words: "Zua’garr provides, his contagion will spread, his influence grow, and you shall be rewarded."
Potentially related: previously encountered troglodytes that seemed to be controlled by unknown entity/means. Requested us to retrieve a tablet that had been stolen by drow (presumably House Karlaith based on their location of meeting not known what this tablet is, but the troglodytes said the same words that we saw on the altar.
Ry'thera has a strong fighter at his side, Merk'yra, with considerable strength and fighting prowess. Merk'yra is now also undead, though it's unclear how reliant he is on Ry'thera for his continued existence.
From our calendar, Ry'thera achieved lichdom between 15 and 29 days ago, though time flows different in the Feywild; based on his increased strength and the contraptions he used to trap Daegoth, it has likely been longer for him to be able to prepare so thoroughly.
The contraptions used were mechanical in their centre, and shielded with a dark magic that inflicted a petrifying like effect to all around it when touched. Dispelling the shield and then physically destroying the mechanism broke the effect but also causes a wave of severe damage.
We do not know if Ry'thera is working with House Karlaith or against them, or simply to his own means entirely. Assuming the tablet that was stolen is linked to Zua'garr, it is possible he is looking for a tablet that may be in the possession of the Night Mother, though we do not know what this tablet is or what power it is meant to hold.
The report is written in Common in a neat, well-practiced hand, addressed to Commander Gae'har. Although it is not sealed, it is folded in such a way that it would be clear if it had been opened before reaching its destination. The date in the top corner is stated as: 9th Proviso 1524 (Bastion).
