Ridgeport
A City Built From Two
Ridgeport was originally two separate settlements, Grower's Ridge and Port Glacid. Grower's Ridge was a small farming town situated on top of the ridge, and Port Glacid was a small port town at the base of the slope. Over the years, Grower's Ridge would trade with the settlements of the land, and Port Glacid would trade with the many ports of the seas. Eventually, the town of Grower's Ridge slowly grew to block off all paths to Port Glacid. That summer, no trade ships returned. A mighty Kraken had moved into the waters near the port. Port Glacid was forced to buy food and goods from Grower's Ridge, which sold to them at a massive markup. Eventually, Port Glacid could not support itself anymore, and Grower's Ridge destroyed their economy, once and for all. Thus, Ridgeport was founded. Grower's Ridge became Upper Ridgeport, and Port Glacid became Lower Ridgeport.
The wealthier classes of Upper Ridgeport refused to build downward, and eventually just built over the slope and the port itself, creating a shelf district that hung above the heads of the Lower Ridgeport citizens.
Upper Ridgeport
This part of the city is filled with the upper class. Merchants, politicians, and trust fund kids litter the streets and fill the housing. There's also a large community of farmers that grow crops in a large tower in the center of town known as The Middle Gardens. However, the main attraction of Upper Ridgeport is the fight colosseum called "The Lightning Circle." It is a massive structure that stands on the border between The Shelf and Upper Ridgeport. It holds battles daily, with massive events held on the weekend.
The Shelf
This is the Upper Ridgeport district that hangs over Lower Ridgeport. There is a lot of tension here, as this district has a crane port that can pull ships out of the sea before they reach the Lower Ridgeport docks. It takes away work from the Lower Ridgeportians, who see this as the upper class stealing even more from them.
Lower Ridgeport
The slums of the city, this was originally the port town of Port Glacid. After the assimilation, the residents just became poorer and poorer. Eventually, crime rings sprung up to steal from the merchant ships that were docking at their ports and pass it on to the community members who need it most. These crime rings were used as an excuse for Upper Ridgeport to build the crane dock on The Shelf. Many of the residents in Lower Ridgeport are just trying to get by working for small fishing companies and local trade shipping. Some have set up underground fight pits to train fighters in hopes that they will raise up to The Lightning Circle. Some have affectionately called them Shock Pits.
