Miasmata

A Forbidding Portent

When the Howling Abyss leaks into Bastille, it comes in the form of a black mist that corrupts whatever it touches. Dispersing through the air like ink in water, the Miasmata expands inexorably from its point of origin, enveloping whatever is in its path. The mist is not in itself corrosive or poisonous however, wherever the Miasmata goes, destruction soon follows. Brothers turn against one another, a jealous lover strikes against her husbands mistress, a horse breaks its leg while attempting to fell the mist, and shadow beasts emerge from the night to ravage unsuspecting travelers. It is said that the Miasmata is punishment levied against the Duskmen for their faithlessness.

Unnatural Beasts

The Miasmata is a recent development and in so far, has only affected the outermost districts of Bastille. Deep in the Shadowpine Forest, dark shadow monsters have begun to emerge from the black mist. Some are familiar animals such as mastiffs and horses, twisted horribly by shadow. But with each passing week, the creatures grow in size and ferocity. The Illuminated Ones are stretched thin attempting to respond to all of the requests for help. Nonessential districts have been all but abandoned by the The Radiant Seat.
