Human
Humans are the most dominant species in the world of Barzathan. Some attest that this is due to their natural drive to better themselves, others to their innate proclivity to expand and conquer the unknown. Some, mostly elves, will say that it is because they simply refuse to control the rate at which they breed. Either way - or most likely because of all three - humanity has become a dominant force in the world.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Full grown humans generally stand between 5 and 6 feet tall, although some might be shorter or taller. They come in an assortment of shapes and sizes, although the standard formation of two arms, two legs, and one head is considered preferable to any alternatives, post-birth incidents notwithstanding.
Genetics and Reproduction
Humanity tends to reproduce at an extraordinary rate, many of their females bearing their first child by the age of 25. Over the course of one lifespan, one human female may give birth to half a dozen offspring. At this precipitous rate, the human population is growing exponentially - much to the chagrin of their elven neighbors.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
General names can vary by region, but on the continent of Haven, home to Caragan, common male first names may include: Everett, Evan, Alex, Jonathan, Reginald, Perry, and William. Common female first names include: Mary, Alice, Katheryn, Lillian, and Elizabeth. Common last names are Smith, Jones, Jacobson, Haroldson, Porter, and Potter.
History
Humanity came out of the caves and trees around the same time that the first elven civilizations were forming the written word. Since then they have spread around the world and dominated every land they occupy by sheer forces of will and numbers. They have created empires, invented wondrous machines, and generally shaped the landscape as suits their own wants and needs.
