Session 99: Scallywags: Reputations Proceed

General Summary

Before the arrival into the Regent's Tower, Brimstone and Aikhon invite Vareth to the Captain's Quarters of the Call in order to get to the bottom line of Vareth's past with Vull Somer, whom the black dragonborn tried to stab profusely some two days prior. In this room, Vareth, drunkedly, reveals that his search for Vull is not over, but also that Vull stole from him (more likely gambled) the Night's Dream, Vareth's ship. The three brothers convene on the beauty of the vessel, for Vareth has a small painting of it; he misses her, and they all can see why from its beauty. Still, Vareth will seek, eventually, into the Ethereal, but he also asks his brothers to help him find his lost ship, The Night's Dream.

Later that day, Aikhon takes Ilknar across the great ocean, where Torth and Thej lead the Razor, its crew, and almost two dozen dragonborn refugees to the Lands of the Animaesus, where they can find the fabled dragon city, Droln. Really, Ilknar wants to speak to Torth about his worries of himself, his fate, Nethpione, and the visions she has been having. Aikhon spends time with the others, theses refugees, and they fawn upon him, and seek to hear his stories. Torth is concerned, but also worried of the mysterious was in which Nethpione has been affected. However, Torth knows Ilknar has a divine purpose. He will seek to commune with Bilin, the sea goddess, and he can send information to Ilknar through the winds. With this, Ilknar and Aikhon enjoy some time with the Razor's crew, and then they return to the Call, to get ready to dock at the Regent Tower, to meet the new Regent, and for Roland to face his past.

The crews have split, and with Aikhon, Brimstone, and Ilknar docking in the western dock, close to Roland's past homes and connections in the Devil's Gambit. Mila, Sasha, and Roland have arrived from the Eastern shores, and with Reggie's aid, they are able to persuade their way into the noble's dock. Roland then leads Mila and Lady Sasha to deliver letters, about 50, around the city. These will claim to key nobles and members of the Devil's Gambit that Roland is now the leader, and that they must meet in the caves below the city, the Regent Tower, what is known as the Devil's Grin. Roland's reputation proceeds him back and forth around the city, and now the hold of the Devil's Gambit is almost in full grip.

At the top of the next day, the crews of the Crimson Fleet arrive in the Regent Isles, with large buildings, towers, pillars, gardens, and fountains. It is a beauty of a city, and they trail their way through to the larger palace structure, a castle in its own right, the true namesake of the city, The Regent Tower.
In the large room, they officially meet, Aikhon, Brimstone, the Dovah's, Ollie and Bangrim, Hornal Stormchaser, the new regent of the Regent Isles, and his entourage, four storm giants, Throngar, the younger, Oudin, the eldest, Hrilda, his daughter and mother to Throngar, and Aurora, the leader and matriarch. They are most curious, for Ilknar is introduces most grandly by the skills of Aikhon Dovah, and Pemi of the Southern Mountains. The litany of titles sparks a joy and a concern, but Hornal, the regent, stops the discussion to reward and thank the Scallywags with 12000 gold, 2000g for each member.
The Regent the talks of his worries, of the Devil's Gambit and the attempt on his life and the manipulation of his father's. His compatriots, the storm giants, also talk of their worries of Ilknar's legitimacy as the new king. Once satisfied, the get drinks to celebrate and full introduce each other.

Then, the groups break away, with the Dovah breaking away to talk to Aurora, who was a former lover of Dovah Senior, and they ask about his personality and being, and she barely informs them of what they already know, other than his ability to shape change into nearly any form: he fooled her. He made himsle seem as a giant, and he and Aurora fall in love, but they did not have any children; Brimstone and Aikhon confirm.
Ilknar, Nethpione, and Pemi break away and talk with Throngar and Oudin, where Hrilda watches on from the balcony. Ilknar wishes to know what Oudin might about his father Hekaton. He was a giant in all senses of the word, and Oudin questions if Ilknar is at all the same. But, he follows Aurora, the matriarch. However, Hornal listens in, and although he agrees, that the Regency and the Crimson Fleet would be a great team, he also knows that he needs help against the inner turmoils of the Regent Isles, the Devil's Gambit, and how they seemingly have aligned with the King to take over the Regent Isles completely. Ilknar confirms that he and his Dovah compatriots will take care of the issue, and that they will also find means to oppose any aid from the king.
Lastly Ilknar rages and joins the other giants in height and might, and to stand on their level. He wants to prove himself worthy of their support. They leave the regency, and Hornal asks for them to keep him abreast to their aims against the Devil's Gambit.

The Scallywags reconven together down in the Devil's Grin, and they come to watch Roland's speech to these people.
On the way there, Aikhon breaks away, and he changes into a form very similar to Roland; he searches for information about the tiefling that Feanger described, this dark, purple skinned being with a bat-like nose. He is able to learn his name, Mr. Temerity. Not a real name. There is a civil war brewing, the dragonborn learns, within the Devil's Gambit. One of the leaders will even meet with this Mr. Temerity later in the evening, a leader Roland knows.

Aikhon shares this information with Roland before his speech down in the Devil's Grin. There are nearly 200 people in attendance, and yes some key leaders, but not as many as their should be. "People of the Gambit. Somer is dead, and only this ring is left. This is not just some power grab, but a means for a better future, for greater heights beyond what Somer could provide. At first, some are confused and wary, but then Roland reveals his arm, and claims of his own true experience, of battle and encounters way beyond the norm.

During the speech, Sasha sees two ladies, one who was called out by Roland for an answer, and obvious leader, but she only had her minions retort back for her, and another a fire mage, a guard of this running lady. The first lady turns invisible, and the other runs in fear, trying to even use a wall of fire to stop her, but Sasha keeps flying onward. They stop outside near a cliff, and Lady Sasha is able to convince the lady of their friendship. She knows her lady will do something against Roland, that is all she knows; she swears to Lady Sasha. She is also scared of Sasha's reputation now, as one who travels with the feared Vareth Dovah, and even some High Mage of the King.

Roland still has 90% of the crowd, and he promises leadership to those who find Lady Sasha's signature within the letters he delivered. He finishes his speech and convenes with the Scallywags. Beforehand, he awards Fremena with the role of Beart, the fallen informant of the Fives of the Devil's Gambit.
Roland then meets with Elerra, a drow lady and leader of the Twos, the Greeters of the Devils Gambit, and their is an obviously familial connection between them, despite not having having any shared blood with her; they both have impeccable tast in fashion and clothing. They talk amongst themselves, and the others see Roland pivot around even her with words and tactics. Elerra is playing both sides, waiting to see of Roland is indeed successful against the King, but also playing cards with the King's people too, hoping to see which end best suits her needs. She goes away, promising aid, but not too much now.

Roland and Ilknar talk, and Roland is all smiles, hopeful in the Regent and his Family, in true memories of his father and now his own giant purpose and destiny. Aikhon follows with an ominous voice asking for aims and goals, but still he remains hidden. They then follow Roland up and outside into the City, and the west and out of it; they go the mansion of Somer, where his son Sylvan gathers other leaders of the Devil's Gambit to play a new game versus Roland and the Scallywags.
