Session 98: Animaesus and Tarrasques: Control of the Beast's Salt
General Summary
Amu and Pio, with Tenebris, Kaly, Aether, Grary, and the followers of Tenebris, now rest after a day of fligth as giant eagles. Many miles they have soared over, and now Amu comes to his brother Pio, asking of his balance with this whole kilter now set in motion--the rise of the beast, its shadow, and the claim lost of the house--the new territories now sought after. They worry mostly over Birdman's control of the beast, of the power and destruction that could be wrought--that was wrought--by the Shadow of the Beast, both now and in the past. They know the darkness of Ssech would have been much more encompassing, lethal even.
Birdman awakes from his trance knowing he has been watched all night, but not just he beast, the tarrasque, but also by eyes from what's left of the first and sixth houses. He rises, and so does the tarrque, and around them, a ring of bystanders, of former citizens of the City of Salt gawk and wonder. Will the Birdman truly remove a nightmare? Will it be better? Worse? How will we do this differently--so much differently, than before? In awe himself, Birdman barely registers the salute from Goc. The raiment grabs onto the long tail of the beast before it trails away. The beast travels with ruinous ease through the Throat of the city, destroying much of the architecture in the process. However, it seems to be only his connection and control, now astride the Tarrasque's head, yes, Birdman's connection to the beast stays its march.
Near the main gate that opens into the Spillway that leaves westerly from the City of Salt, Oery of the 8th House stands with squamata paladins of the 7th House, and Moustelin Militia of the 6th and Lupin Blood Hunters with Kral and with the Lupin Lords--Killian, Hybearn, N'rend and Aregash--where Oery asks for glory to be added to a cup left dry, for recompense for lost wages and lost future fortunes. Birdman's Skinquilt is beyond able to stay quiet, and it sentience takes audio form. In the confusion, and agreement is finally reached: life is not worth the wrath of the beast. However, before Birdman and the Tarrasque can leave, horns blow from the east. The Centaur arrive, with Strass'eh Sick and his animaesus followers astride their own dinosaur hordes.
Hybearn leads the wolves to meet these new found enemies, and Goc follows with the moustelin militia. As they meet in the center of the city, carnage is unleashed and bloodshed carves from every blade. Mel soon takes a flanking advantage, and her hordes of undead release from the underbelly of the sewers of the City of Salt, and with the Wolves and Moustelin, the fight quiets. This is not for long, however, for another rumbling of the depths comes forth, and hundreds of umberhulks rise to eat, capture, and take the city, too, for themselves. Birdman has watched from this point on, argued with his new but not attuned Puppetmaster mask, and now hears the tarrasque beg for hunger and an end to it, now. The Birdman relents, focusing the rage of the beast toward the Centaurs, Dinosaurs, and umber hulks. This war rages for most of the day, and when a quietude and quiet was almost reached, at sun down, a new cackle and roar joins the onslaught.
Dozens of gnolls, lead by darkness itself it seems, begin to rampage through the city of salt, taking the bloodforce and life of all whom may still be standing after the days battle already. This fight continues, until Birdman astride the tarrasque finds so many gone, so many dead, so much blood and murder about him. The City of Salt has taken its last drops, hopefully. Can the ground be sated yet? The throng tires, and the roars stop, and the blood flows around the corpses stacked high. Here, in this deafening silence, Birdman finds a light dropping from the sky. The beast thinks it is the sun, and bright though it is, it is not large enough. THe tarrasque wants to eat the sun. Birdman sends letters to the leadership about the fall and intention to continue out of the city.
He must rest, and in that rest, he dreams. He dreams of a lost forest, a fey dream, and he follows through a dark and wooded ravine, green and layered in whimsy. Here he finds Amu now walking with him, and they soon meet with a group of birds, one with red wings, and many other ravens and crows, with one larger above them all. They ask for clarity, and they are forced to follow the creature, the red winged bird, through the rock out cropping on the other side. They do, and they are separated, with Amu first falling, and the inside the maw of a dragon. He tries to unleash himself with the tsunami's strength. Birdman is atop a tower, with black stairs about him leading down in the four cardinal directions. Up those stairs climb other kenku, vying for his life. However, the scene switches, to him in court, with Eros sitting next to him in this dream. Therapy and litigation all in one.
Kaly is awake, on watch, and she takes a walk away from Tenebris. She finds a stream, and at this stream and arbiter finds her. It asks her for knowledge on the magic and creatures she travels with. However, she resists and destroys the robot.
