Session 95: Animaesus and Tarrasques: Vear's Consequences
General Summary
They arrive to the Ferry. They are there before Vear, so they must wait. They talk and plan, and see hope and frustrations, ties and severances. Yet, they know they must wait. Thus, Birdman treks off to survey, and after about 30 or so minutes he finds a camp, of some of these dwarves who travel with Vear. This is from a time before these days when perhaps they waited for the chance to meet with the cynas lord, or later yet, when Vear and his entourage traveled over the ferry some five days past.
Amu turns into a bird, and following the river, he is able to traverse much further back east. He finds the dwarves with Animaesus too, and they are leading Vear and his group back to the Ferry. But this is really to return to the Cynas city. He waits, and as a bird he watches. They travel and curse, and wane in their efforts, but they are two groups. The dwarves and the animaesus. Theere is obvious disagreement about they escape, about what to do after being scared off in the middle of the night. Taking opportunity, as the benign bird, he calls upon his innate connections to nature, and he speaks with the trees, animating them, making them able to communicate. What others may be about he asks, what other creatures who are not beass, who may look like beasts? The oak says, other than you? And yes, there is another, a dragonfly about, assisting the others with the quickness of their travels. With this, Amu returns, and he finds the others already hearing of Birdman's connections. Amu had to transport via plants again, in order to arrive in time.
After some discussion and more waiting, off across the river, near the Ferry-House, they see the fluttering wings of a trochil watching them. She darts away, and the group confer, that they must send some sort of signal that they are willing to talk, to have peace so that she doesn't go back to the others to raise an alarm, a need to start with a fight. The arrow of Birdman is used, and ignited with moonlight, and with that, the young trochil returns. She is a druid, and she wants to know of the peace they talk of, but she is wary of the outsiders, the fey and elves, the magics they bring. Nevertheless, she agrees to return to Vear, to hopefully convince him of peace. She is gone but minutes, with the only sign in the distance of their meeting to be that of the dancing fire light of their torches stopping, conversing like their shadows.
Thus they wait.
And in time, the trochil leads Vear and the others of his entourage into view, the ferry-boat, and they now wait for the promises of these hunters of the city to come, a meeting of peace. Behind them, though, stand a quintet of dwarven warriors in heavy armor and with heavy weapons. They seem to have other ideas on what Vear's choices must be today. Nevertheless, Birdman swims over with the aid of his raiment, and Amu flies as a bird. The two meet the dozen plus, and they talk. Vear needs to come, but he has made other deals, and he is trying to get the best of both worlds. Nevertheless, in him agreeing with joining Birdman, he angers the Dwarves, who are guiding him back to the Cynas city, and to more beyond. With this reaction, Tenebris and his followers Whitesnake and Scorpions, with Lord Faurwiin's simulacrum, and even Kaly with Pio, teleport in, and the imprison the dwarves in a force cage. Amu then ignites the walls in fire, and Kaly and the other casters follow suit with fireballs, bolts, and magical swords and arrows. The ambush, the death and murder, put Vear into a shock, and others have to get him to safety, with Aether and Grary, a cynas walker, joining him, Pio, Amu, and eventually Birdman aboard the ferry. They tug on the rope and dig staves into the mud as quickly as they can. Meanwhile, the other walkers leave, helping little in the death of the dwarves, but mostly trying to leave as quickly as possible. Tenebris finishes off the last dwarves, and he takes what loot he can from their corpses.
They eventually get the boat back and forth to have them all regroup, and then they transport via a tree back to the outskirts of the City of Salt, the edges of the swamps that encircle the city. They traverse back through the eastern parts of the city, the broken down, ruined, but still somewhat standing, if not abandone, Tailstones, passing the 12th House Marrow Miner gates, and then into to Beast's Keep. There, more ruin sits, and more sewage builds up, as the tarrasque rests, or even sleeps further south than where they last were a few days back. Birdman approaches, with Amu, and Z, and he distracts the beast with the beastling, and the Tarrasque eats the baby monster, and Birdman hides in the muck and shadows. Amu guides Vear and his followers Grary and Aether. They release the seal in the disturbance and midnight snack of the Beast. The beast waits, for now, and so must they. Roomane is too far gone, with little hope of locating him now, with so many days heads start.
