Session 78: Animaesus and Tarrasques: Revelations and Two Dead Lords
General Summary
Tenebris learns through his own investigations that the Paladin he and his master seeks is very far away, hundreds of miles north east of the City of Salt. He must have aid from Macinfex or even another Wizard to be able to travel so far so quickly, so once the apprentice shares this with his master, the master Faurwiin reasons that the 7th Hosue must be funding the paladins ventures, and thus Macinifex must know much more than he lets on about the current state of affairs within the City of Salt. He also must be gaining allies from the Centaur Hordes in those ancient fey forests. Mayhaps Killian and his connections with his farther, no matter how tenuous they be now since Hybearn took control of the 50 Pack Lords, perhaps they could waylay or circumvent the efforts of this paladin, the 7th House, and his presumed new allies amongst the Centaur. Thus, Faurwiin starts to see, not only will Mel's militia be needed, not only do they need to hasten in their control of this magical tower, they must also prepare for an eventual war between at least one more army than they expected.
With this, Tenebris continues to make the contruct, the dragons from the tower and from parts around the city.
Faurwiin then takes the time to follow a lead from Orcafor's spellbook, some note that has to do with a vault he may have about the cloning research from the former binderlord. He finds an odd door, one not there before, and once he opens, he sees a small room. In the center of the room, there are three small braziers in a row, with the one in the center being much larger than the others. THere are four other fires in the four corners of the room. Then the center fire speaks, and greets the potential new master. Faurwiin then discusses with this same creature its purpose, and it explains its connections to the tower and Orcafor's secrets, and then it gives Faurwiin a choice between up and down. Unsure of the outcome, the elf asks for more informaiont, but Eember refuses to acknowledge more than his choice--the trust he must establish with the tower. Eember, the fire, seems to then teleport the wizard back to another part of the tower, and Faurwiin soon realizes the creature will not return for another day. The same door is not there, even if the book suggests it should be. Yet, he missed one small note: this task can only be attempted once a day. He will have to return.
Amu is returning to Birdman's apartment. He finds someone inside ransacking what is left of the wood elf's home. He also finds evidence that a pumthera hides nearby. With this, he climbs through the open window on the second story, and he asks the halfling what he is doing. This scares the halfling, and he casts a spell to try and put Amu to sleep, so the musteli casts his own spell, further scaring the halfling. He tries again to cast a spell, and then he runs out the door. On the steps, Amu casts to feeble the mind of this foe, and the halfling trips down the stairs in the process. Amu soon follows afterwards, and he puts the poor wretch out of his misery. (This inadvertantly saves Birdman from the 9th House finding out anything more specific about his contacts and connections.)
With this, Amu goes back inside, taking the gear of this sorcerer with him upstairs. While throwing it in one of the rooms of the apartment, a small vulpin, or foxkin, enters through the window. He had watched the attack, and he also was waiting to speak to Birdman. He asks Amu if he knows where the attorney is, but Amu does not, at this moment, but he knows of safe places here. It is clear that Gorgmongr is scared and nervous about something, so Amu takes it upon himself to go find the Birdman. He transforms into a Giant Eagle, and he begins his search. He is quick to find Birdman, who is making his way down the street toward Vear, and the 8th House, after meeting with Xantha.
They discuss druidic perspectives, and warnings of Gorgmongr at the apartment. Birdman is thankful, but he must go to meet with Vear. Amu leaves him to return to the apartment, and Birdman continues down the street to the 8th House District. Once he follows down and with a crowd for some event, he is checked in my guard dogs and cynas working as protectorate for the building. Following the promptings from the workers and guards, he goes down further, deeper than expected for the 8th House, a place Birdman has spent little time thus far, and he soon hears clapping and music.
He hurries down, and finds himself in a larger, ornate and grandiose, Opera Theatre, with Vear, himself, singing on stage. The theatre is full, and key members, including Karen from earlier today, with her other sister, Karyn(?), with her. As he looks around, and walks to a seat--also getting distracted by Karen's excitment to see him--he sees two shadowy forms, but not forms, either. The kenku spirits move, and sit, giggle and cackle before they change their seat. Jarred, it takes a few moments of the audience asking him to sit for Birdman to follow through. Shaken, he can barely sit still during he Bindlord's performance, and he soon also notices that Macinifex is here, and his Seeker, Cheobo, comes to deliver some extensive news, long winded it seems, almost interrupting the performance, too. It seems to anger Macinifex quite a bit, but not to stop him from his enjoyment this night.
With this, a group of guards escort the noisy seat, of Birdman, and they take him back stage to wait for the end of Vear's performance. Once the performance is done, Vear comes back stage to share a drink with the Birdman. Here Birdman pleas for Vear's signature toward's his freedom from the courts. At first, Vear reluctantly agrees, but then he sees a way to know more of Pio and of Mel, but Birdman remains neutral in his expression. With this, Birdman does sell some information, and then he leaves.
He goes outside to talk to Macinifex before he leaves, and he finds the old fox about out of the theatre. They discuss the events of his shadow, and the imagery of the great black dot. Here, Macinifex connects Birdman to a destiny, a place between life and death that he can touch as a former curse, a shadow of his own following him. He will become the Black Dot, and not the Black Dot, the Beast, and Not the Beast. Birdman is confused, and he returns to his apartment.
Faurwiin and Tenebris are busy at work trading skills and pracitising magic for the next moves of the plans. Tenebris makes four dragons in total, and they talk of their progress in the control of the Tower. However, they also need time to perfect a similacrum for Tenebris, so he can have the most success against their nemesis, this bronze squamata paladin. They must find a way to counter the armies at play around the city, Mels, the dwarves, and even now the centaurs to the north. They begin a long rest and then twelve hours of study for this new power.
When Birdman arrives back home, he takes what is left of Finneas' body, and he throws it down the umber hulk tunnels that have almost taken over the undercity of the City of Salt. Gorgmongr sleeps, and Amu meditates. Yet, Birdman will not that last once Amu explains more of the situation, and he flips the table the fox sleeps upon. Once Gorg recovers, they talk of the Prophecy of the Great Black Dot, and how Birdman is one of two candidates for the shadow of the beast, to control the future, and maybe to save many from sure death. Gorgmongr suggests that they must go to the once place they have not searched to find Ssech, the other candidate: inside the beast. Amu should be able to change them into some flesh worms to burrow into the beast.
Later at midnight, the city is shook, earquakes and breath. The mouth, the nostrils, he eyes, and the face--the luings, too. The beast partially awakes, for two binder lords have fallen: The 2nd and the 13th. The seals shake, and the beast now breathes again. For the words of power are now lost. Will eleven be enough?
