Session 77: Animaesus and Tarrasques: Wizards n' Weasels, and Wise-guys

General Summary

After the fall of the Stagecourts, only dust seemed to remain hovering over the City of Salt. The screams have subsided, and the digging continues, for hope is fickle. With this, Birdman has broken away to find perch atop a near building within the Beastcrown, and Birdman watches the dust continue to billow above the City of Salt like a great pall, an ominous cloud. He is up most of the morning, and he awakes on the roof in somewhat of a introspective stupor. But he has a need to write, to express what needs to be said for the people of the City of Salt. He must find a safe place, so he goes to a tavern, Thirds, in the south of the city, and he takes to this off the beaten path, so he can compose correnspondence for not only the people of the City of Salt, but also for key Binder-Lords he needs to commune with it.
He writes as JG. Guillesbrand again, saying:
To the people that inhabit this City of Salt I ask that we bear witness. Witness to this most recent and tragic destruction of monumental proportion. With the Stage Courts now leveled we in turn remain a disconnected company. We of this city who have endured the sudden incalculable pain of both physical and psychological which I as your humble storyteller find baffling to say the least. What with the internal chaos of our governments lords, the ever encroaching threat that lay beyond our walls, and the obvious social discomfort this outcome was miles above our expectations. But in this contemplation of current events let the people be made aware that though a building of great importance today has fallen and that many lives were claimed, we should not worry. In other words let us see if this society makes a move to rebuild its reputation for a cutthroat, backwater, under dealt(and in my frank opinion) rather rigged and volatile card game or will our luck finally pay off. One can only wonder where this centerfold may inflict the most damage? But Most Generous Reader between you and I, this writer is looking forward to watching the thrilling conclusion to this high stakes poker game. And in doing so I will enjoy a drink as we piece together the first strokes on a beautiful painting called “The End of the World As We Knew It” -J. Guillesband
He also writes to Vear, and the Binderlord of the 8th House agrees to meet after the Stagecourts dust has gone away. However, he also learns that Vear searches for Pio and for Mel to lay judgement and blame for all that has happened.
He writes to Xantha, and only by some luck is the correspondence allowed to reach the 9th House Binder Lord. He learns also that agents of the 9th House search for him. Xantha does agree to meet with Birdman.
He writes to Trundle, of the 4th House, and he agrees to meet; he faces an internal struggle with the Ratuess lords he oversees. However, Birdman elects to see the necromantic sorcerer, Xantha of the 9th House, first.
On the travels over there, he finds a commotion from dwarves above the wall of the Beast's Keep. Concerns begin to arise towards whether the ballistae aimed and prepared for the great beast will be effective at all.
He senses someone following him, but he is at first unsure, and with that, he arrives soon at the 9th House Tower. A glass monolith, the 9th House Tower stands as one of the few bright structures of the City of Salt. At first, there is an odd shadow: his own; but how it shades back it offers a view of a beak, that of his former kenku self, feathers falling from his shoulders freely. This visage is soon broken by one of Xantha's daughters, Karin, and she is at first confused, but know Birdman is welcome. She opens the door for him, and he begins to decide if he walks in, alone.

We break away to another part of the city. Faurwiin and his apprentice Tenebris, the Elven Syth, gather and learn for power. Here, the master, Faurwiin, bequeaths knowledge of his awesome power, and Tenebris takes 18 hours to learn. It is the power to create life from anything else physical. A true polymorph, transmutation between essences and materials. And while they take the next two to three days to learn these forms, to craft more of Faurwiin's children, and horrendous dragons crafted from the ancient dragonglass--Tenebris' mind deepens into the dread of his foes, of ancient creatures these lands have almost forgotten about--while they build there protectorate of the 11th House, Faurwiin researchs some of Orcafor's remaining spells from his book.
The end of these two to three days, the Syth gather in another room of their tower. This room will allow them to access the scrying of the tower, to gain partial access to its almost ubiquitous view of the City of Salt. Here they try to find the paladin who has eluded them for these many days, but his deific protection is too much. A new tactic is taken, to enter his dreams. A nightmare of Lord Gravitas' impending attack strikes out between the realms of dreams and reality, and his magic assails the thoughts of the paladin.
Through these ventures, the Syth, they learn also at this time of the connections to the 8th House, and how they fund they actions of the gang Lasi has formed to hunt for Pio, whom the aves believes is responsible for the fall of the Stagecourts.
With this, they change tactics again, and they look for the red dragonborn, Sentor Ghosteye, a contact and connectione between what is now much of the relationship between the fallen twelfth house and the new rise of the houses now present, well, other the 11th House since Sentor was released by the hands of the bronze squamata paladin that now still eludes them. Tenebris launches away with his new dragons, and he goes to entrap this red dragonborn. They are able to, and then transport him to the swamp outside the city (Lord Faurwiin stays behind, sending his similacrum in his stead to assist Tenebris.) They send to the bronze paladin and threaten the life of Sentor to him, but he seems unphased by the threat. They then knock out the red dragonborn prisoner, and they will return him to their tower for further interrogation, and eventual memory modification--a true loyalist. Faurwiin presumes it is because this Sentor is an oathbreaker from his paladin vow, something this bronze dragonborn will probably take very seriously.

We join Amu, the musteli druid. He has been traveling for two days north with Pio, escaping the destruction and revenge from the Stagcourts' act. He spends most of his efforts on monitoring his 'brother' Pio, and at first the Binderlord of the 10th House deals with withdrawal symptoms, but the putori soon seems to be doing better. It is at the end of the second day, that they light a large fire, and soon other moustelin join them, druids and lords, descendants of Darvin, and soon a tiny squamata, a voice and and eye to the Walkers, the true leaders and protectors of the Animaesus Lands. Yet, there are fears of the New Folk, of those from lands far away, and how their involvement in these lands now, their raising and consumption of the tarrasques, the lands are tormented. Amu adds his own insights, of the rise and fall of lords and others, and Pio dances the political dance. But, the Walker representative sees a chance. They want to know if Amu will use his power, and Pio his connections, to get them into the city and End the Tarraque for good.
Pio is obviously worried over these fanatical ideas, but he needs an army to set his powers upright. He has been placed as the Warden by these Moustelin, and now the Walkers ask for participation. He must follow through. They form a plan, after Amu shows more of his power to travel through trees to distant places, and they will form an elite group to get within to open gates. Moustelin numbering in the many hundreds will enter into the City of Salt. It is here that Amu agrees to go into the city again, endangering himself, so that he can procure a scroll of sending to enable the best communication for this new plan.
Birdman is going to Xantha...

Faurwiin and Tenebris gather the Red dragonborn...

And Amu and Pio return to the City of Salt... Contacts and sending magic for success...

The glass tower pools open, and Birdman only hesitates for a moment before he goes inside. He rises a set of glass stairs, and the lights play like carnivals. He is soon met by Xantha's other daughter, Karen, and she is beautiful and strong.

She leads him to her fathers glass shelves and table, a library or study of sorts, and Xantha waits, reading a book, standing above the table. He waits many moments until is awkward for Birdman before he speaks. Birdman quickly controls the conversation, and Xantha seems to give in, where Birdman asks about the anger toward Mel, its validity. He speaks to intent and revenge, but Xantha does not excuse his actions. He in fact redirects to a new ploy to use Birdman's connections and understanding, this third and independent party, to get closer to the new 11th House Binder Lord. Orcafor had deals and he wishes to know more of how these will be enstilled in future ventures.

He leaves, and he knows he is followed, but he is able to lose the Karen, the daughter of Xantha in the streets. She curses him.
During these movements, Birdman also learns the Shadow has returned, and it is described as a Kenku.

Faurwiin and Tenebris have returned to their tower, and they begin the Modify memory brainwashing for their new, soon to be, compatriot Sentor. However, they are soon interrupted by a monk of the 7th House, Cheobo, and she seeks to have aid like the past, their dear friend Orcafor, to have access to the scrying capabilities so that they might track down who has attacked them in recent days, all the while the stagecourts fall. Tenebris is sent to greet, and he keeps her on the other side of the gate despite her pleas. Nevertheless, she seems to smell, or even sense something familiar about this, a perfume even, something. Nevertheless, she will return.

Amu walks behind at this point, and then he too comes to the gates, but he also is not let in. He talks with Tenebris, trying to know of he could buy a sending spell. However, the paranoia of the Syth is far too heightened. He agrees to no trade.
However, Amu calls Tenebris less friendly than mushrooms.
"I am not evil."
Mushrooms can be evil too.
