Session 66: Scallywags: The Golden Stem's Sphinx and the 8th Bloom

General Summary

The floors and ceilings and walls drip gold upon Mila, Roland, Saerah, the wounded Holdar, but not Brimstone, Aikhon or Ilknar, and these drops begin to freeze those, and while this happens, Ilknar overreacts, and he charges to throw a golden horse statue against a wall, breaking open into another hallway, while a Sphinx teleports in to the giant and golden circle room of statues and chaotic golden oils and oozes groping even Valia, the agent of chaos who summoned these unctuous liquids. Yet, the Sphinx offers peace, and even goes to Saerah to cure this petrification, as the others stand resilient in their own right agains such arcane and golden odds.

Mila and Brimstone see two other humanoids almost flanking them, but they seem just as frightened as the dragon brothers and mila at the aspects of this strange sphinx coming after them into this golden chamber. During this exchange, Aikhon, Brimstone and Mila see that Holdar is being changed and absorbed by the golden floors of the Stem's structure, and it sparks his insanity, making him while pleading to attack Brimstone and Aikhon, and thus forcing them to end the poor zile before he transforms into something more heinous.
Eventually seeing that the ancient monstrosity has cured Saerah, and that they are all keen on helping the cause of the bloom, not representatives of the taint that are on the next level. Aikhon mentions they are mortal and tired, albeit even hungry too, and the sphinx magically creates a hero's feast for them all, and they rest over an hour, gaining magical resistances and strenght from the divine blessing of food. The Sphinx explains to them that the bloom has this purpose, even if it is out of time as they understand it: they still must make a sacrifice of either body (flesh and blood: the weakest but easiest to provide), sight (knowledge, strong but also hard to regain), or spirit (your soul, the most potent, but it will cost your life)--this is about the next 100 years, reproduction and the future of peoples and races. During this rest, Ilknar asks how the Sphinx could recognize even he, a son of lord Hekaton, King of the Great seas, and the Sphinx only knows his deity Valin sent him here for such a task, and that time is not his general concern until he came to this plane. Why he is here, Ilknar, is because his blood is a prescious thing, is spirit more so, connecting to ancient pasts.

The go through a door, through the golden angelic and sphinx-like statues, and they are greeted yet again by strange golden constructs, one indeed barrels past them, and only rejoing into the golden floor beneath them, they intuit, because the sphinx guards and masters them.

Upon the second floor, they are greeted by light on the walls and floors glittering over the golden births of coins, bars, and other shapes and sizes of treasures gleaming brightly. Yet, the ceiling hides great shadows, and Aikhon even sees a golden egg, that of the size of a dragon, in the center of the room. He dashes for it, but he soon sees the shadows on the ceiling move and grow arms, to get ready to dash and pounc on he on his unsuspecting friends; so, Aikhon loads an acidic quarrel in to his hand crossbow and fires squarely into the shoulder of the beast, and soon others join in and attack, as Mila, Roland, and then Ilknar take position. It is the giantkin who also sees the shadows on the ceiling and he hefts and throws his axe, igniting it with his lightning innate magics, and nearly felling the creature in but a few throws. He could have done more damage, but he is soon pounced upon by a much large strange, enshrouded creature. Its claws and tail slash and pierce, and the others join against it, with even Mila pivoiting off a golden brick being purged from the wall to pivot around the tail and odd back and rib cage of the aberration, and she knows it prone. This allows them all to pummel it into the ground, but it screeches for aid, and using Mila's fear against her, six more come to attack the group, but Mila is able to destroy the lead alien, and then the other shadows disperse.
They go to the center of the room, and they take in all the treasue in awe. They then see a door open on the far side of the room, and the male sphinx rejoins them, wih this female partner now followin, and behind them, a much larger figure, one of the storm giant blood. He could be an older version of Ilknar standing right before the Scallywags, but it cannot be, for his father died years ago.
