Session 65: A Tarrasque Meal Gone Wrong; Animaesus and Tarrasques

General Summary

They stand south of the beast as it rises from the nearly one hundred foot wide sink hole. Killian charges forward, calling upon the thunder of the cloud giants and the lightning of the storm giants to both protect him and to engage the tarrasque with him, and him alone.

Yet, as he charges forward, Faurwiin, Diro--a wolf of the first house--and Birdman watch on, the dust still blocking their view, as the blood that was spewed from the birth of this cloned beast from beneath the Stagecourts seems to activate, become alive, or maybe more specific still, the bodies that were mixed, humanoid mostly, mixed within the blood of this cystic womb that birthed this enraged tarrasque, well these bodies rise, undead and raged just like their progenitor. They charge, biting and clawing at Diro, Birdman, Faurwiin. But, seeing those three, Killian knows they can fend for themselves for a while, and so he rushes to the pit, this enormous sink hole. He sees the insensate creature beginning to climb and rise above the hole. If it were to reach any part of the city beyond the crushed streets of what is left of the Stagecourts, it would wreak havoc in a way the city has not seen since its nascency nearly a three centuries ago. Thus, Killian vows to take this thing's new life, to put it back in the hole it came out of. However, its presence, its magnificient deathliness, churns his soul. He's frightened, and must, with each strike of his sword and call from his innate magics of the ancient giants, fight through the fear; he must find the end of this crazed beast's roar.

Faurwiin, once he sees that the fear has gone so far to have allowed Killian to become inside the mouth of the tarrasque, he charges away from Birdman and Diro to assist the lupin giant. He hastens himself, and he finds some purchase with blade and magic, and just long of enough to incapacitate the beast with a strange mind spell cast more than three times, Killian is able to escape.

By this point, two key things happen. In the North, part of the streets, a strange minotaur like creature flies under the effects of an even stranger whistling sound. This creature engages with other strange resurrections from the tarrasque blood, zombie baby tarrasques too, trying to fling one into the sink hole, but to no avail. Thus this odd, hugely built and demonic looking minotaur charges around and then over the shortened part of the hole of the north crumbling streets, and he engages with the beast on its flank and shoulder, further allowing for Killian to find his feet again, and to continue his own barrage of moon blade slashes. It seems for a time, that they are gaining ground, perhaps even being able to push the tarrasque back in the hole. Then, Faurwiin looks behind, back to Birdman and Diro, and they are surrounded by ghouls and zombie baby tarrasques, well two, but more than enough, and Birdman has his leg bitten by one of them.

Faurwiin runs back briefly to assist, but only briefly, for he knows his chief efforts must be against the risen tarrasque, so close to the next street, to home of the first house and many others.

Birdman is able to escape from the grip of the beast, and he has circled about with shortsword in hand slicing undead as they come within reach. But, he breaks away, and he releases volley after to volley, felling a half dozen ghouls along the way and pelting the duo of zombie baby tarrasque still around Diro. Surrounded on all sides, this lupin warrior of the first house defends Birdman and the city as the whole with each swipe of his bastard sword. He held a dozen at bay.

Soon, Faurwiin, the demonic Minotaur, and Killian are able to keep assaulting the beast until Faurwiin's magic topples it back over the edge of the hole. It explodes, and blood and viscera cover everything within a few hundred feet. Killian, so close, bitten so many times, he feels his skin crawl, and even his bones begin to ache, something has become part of him. Yet within moments, the minotaur ensures the beast's end by landing atop it and following it down as it's corpse gets wedged in what is left of the sink hole. The minotaur, really disguised Tenebris, begins to try to harvest something, a horn maybe, from this gargantuan creature.

The others, Diro licking his wounds, Birdman starting off into his own void, and Killian and Faurwiin most keenly discussing as they watch and help with the clean up, they thank each other, and hope for more alliances as threats continue to develop, as they begin to search for what really might be below the city. They make plans to return here for that very research. Faurwiin teleports away, leaving the others to fend for themselves, and what is left of the City of Salt's Stagecourts.
