Session 54: Civil Wars: The Fall of Orcafor: Animaesus and Tarrasques
General Summary
It is late evening, and Ssech has returned to his apartment home, and he places the odd, spiraled tome in from some ancient source, with a spine of presumably dragon bone, rings of mithral, and pages woven from ancient fish scales. As he does this, and then lays down, merely a few minutes, he hears his window shrug open, and rising, as oneiwith the darkness, he finds a bipedal actual sized ant, removing a backpack and rope to scale down from the window seal, to the floor of his apartment. As strange as this is, this is not this strangest event of today, and he prepares himself by sitting at his kitchen table, his hand crossbow on the table ready to be drawn.
Around the corner, the ant like being must use some magic, for what walks around to face Ssech, who is still disguised as a young red-skinned orc, is a small vulpin, or foxkin, and he greets Ssech. He says he looks for Althea, and Ssech is shocked another knows of her. This vulpin is her former master druid, and he does not know what happend to Stryke and Althea, so he searches for her based upon people who knew them, and he found this place.
Ssech sees during this conversation that the staff of this vulpin shines with an ancinet rune, one akin, one he saw on the same page he read about in the library but hours before. Ssech sees this as an opportunity, as someone who may know more than he about the tarrasque, and its deity and perhaps creator, Jacq, lord of change. They discuss the tarrasque, its future, to end it or set it free, and the disguised Ssech even reveals his true form. This confuses the vulpin, and the tiny druid fox believes that Ssech is Aikanaro, or a reincarnation sent here to repent for his wrongs some 300 years ago. However, Ssech retorts this is not so, and they agree before the vulpin leaves, that they will work together, but not at the cost of citizens of the city in the process.
Deeper into the Beastcrown, in the backend bar called Squarmy's, the personal establishment of Pio and those closest in the 10th House as allies, loyalists, and friends. Amu has come her to debrief with the 10th House Binder Lord, and he finds him with his bodyguard, a large squamata, reptilian warrior, and the drunkard diving into pitchers and ale tankards: this day needs to be washed away.
They share ideas of the new moves, and how the tarrasque will rise, the eagle is here to ensure it doesn't stop, and that Eros has been the accidental cause of most of this. They also discuss if other binder lords should be assassinated, or even if the tarrasque should be awoken. They need more information, but the night wanes.
Deep underneath the 11th House Tower, Faurwiin and Tenebris wait and prepare to ambush Orcafor. They find many trapped beneath, and other storage, and even odd gnomish runes connected to the elemental plane of earth. As they dispell this wards, they are soon met by the sound of Orcafor joining the basement, the dungeon, they hear the archmage coming downstairs, and they take time to sneak away, but there must still be wards to take care of, so they search, but these last few appear to be more resilient to breaking. Then they hear Orcafor yell, "Littlefoot, awaken the earth!" The halfling abjurer of the 11th House runs out into the hallway to summon an earth elemental to aid against whatever attacks the gnomish archmage. The earth rises, and Littlefoot sees Faurwiin approach, and he begs the elvish wizard to assist against this vulpin attacker.
Orcafor is defending against the assailant with a trio of mirage images to distract from the first few attacks as the gnomish wizard tries to reposition himself. Yet, these wizards could not prepare for the wrath of Lord Tenebris, who teleports from place to place, invisible, summoning arcan strikes harnessed by the powers of primordial winds. He leaves the vulpin attacker be, wanting Orcafor to fall even quicker. Littlefoot is able to escape, and orcafor dodges away only because if his mirror images.
Faurwiin hears a roar from deep within, in draconic, and he leaves Lord Tenebris to his fun while he seeks who else is angry at Orcafor. He finds a bronze scale squamata adorned in radiant weapon and armor, one who seemingly escaped from one of the cells. He seeks revenge apparently, but he is also confused by who and what Faurwiin is and his intentions. This squamta does initially agree to aid, but when he finds Faurwiin and Tenebris already engaged, and Lord Orcafor on the run, inside a secret tunnel escape of his office, he then decides to face what he sees as an evil he does not know, a will that will bring more death and destruction to a land almost withered. He strikes with radiant light, trying to blind the duo, and then he attacks, forcing the elves to use precious mana to shield from his attacks.
Killian finds his way sneakily to Mel's apartment, and he gathers Quinnay and his entourage, loosely explaining to them on the way about the eagle's claims and the moves of the other houses, even the civil war against his own. He brings them to his father's tower, an ancient edifice of times before the tarrasque, a structure above the ground, but dilapidated from time and weathering. He explains to this father also of the next steps, and he urges his father to focus on keeping the continuity of the 1st House. His father in turn warns him of Birdman's encroaching arrest, the search for Mel, the 50 Lords who seek her, with only 13 supporting Lord Hybearn's, the 1st House Binder Lord's, claims. Mealladh Apéthanta will be taken into custody to, the grand judge of the stagecourts deems it so, a blame needed for recent events, and performance to appease and quell the masses. To that end, to really focus on the 1st House, Hybearn needs his son, Killian, to aid him as his second in a duel for the High Alpha position of the 50 Lords of the Lupin people.
Before he heads to bed, killian offers insight and warning to the Lupin of the city, and the first house, to impress upon them the need for loyalty, and the warning of his strength. He also begins to investigate the 11th House, and its lights have dimished--no they shimmer like away, the fall and rise in strength, like the quiver of one's broken breath.
Venator Tenebris of House Bellator and Faurwiin of House Niboné engage with a strange bronze scaled squamata, and they lead him around to the office of Orcafor, where the gnome is still unconscious but dying from his wounds. Faurwiin barely notices that the vulpin assassin, presumably from the 10th House, has returned, and he is trying to drag Orcafor away as the two elves are distracted by the ancient paladin and the shadow spawn that Tenebris had summoned. Seeing this, Faurwiin attacks Orcafor, and he attempts to trap the gnomish archmage and binder lord of the 11th House into a soul cage, but he must race agains this vulpin, in an odd ghostly form, who is trying to trap Orcafor into his own ring and trinket, a soul away from the two elven swords and plans. His will and magic reacts quicker than the sleight of hand of the vulpin, and the gnomish archmage's soul becomes his to possess within the soulcage.
They then continue to engage with the bronze squamata as the vulpin escapes again up the stairs to the city surface. However, even with splitting up and having the lizardfolk trail between them, toying with him in a way, they see an opening to take Orcafor and return to the 11th House Seal, and to once and for all, take control of this city from their point of view. Thus, they teleport there with their remaining mana, and they begin to query the soul of Orcafor.
They learn the word of power, the sacrifice the blood and body of orcafor, as well with their own mana and lifeforce, and Faurwiin becomes the Binder Lord of the 11th House. They also soon realize the tower of the 11th House is intrinsically linked to the life of Orcafor, and thus they teleport one more time to rescue Thelas from the falling tower. Finally, they arrive to Birdman's apartment, a place no one will look for them, to finally rest.
