Session 52: Survive, No Live, in the City of Salt: Animaesus and Tarrasques
General Summary
Midday, and Amu stands atop the walls of the Beast's Keep, surveiling the civil battles between 2nd and 5th House: Ranas versus the Technology of the far lands. Yet, the spewing of bile, blood, and seemingly some other fluid from the Tarrasque worries the musteli druid most of all. This other fluid he does not know, and that is worrisome in and of itself: there is a lot.
Birdman continues to climb up the face, head, neck and eventually shoulders of the beast, being lead by the Godbutchers Jager and Meat Masher, and he too is also able to surveil the battlefield, and he sees Killian fighting north of him, grappling, thrashing, slamming and cajoling both Ranas and the froghemoths into submission.
Faurwiin is still at the 11th House Tower, and he surveys from its safety and interconnectedness of eyes and viewing pools for which the House can scry upon the city from many angles. However, he needs to prepare for what will come next, so he begins to search for upwards of three hours into the libraries of the 11th House for key spells he needs for his next steps in his master plans. Additionally, he then spends time with Thelas before resting to garner the young elf's training and repairing of the fallen warforged Ferrum. He also researchs into the connections of the previous 12th House Binder Lord, the one the drow Matron Mother usurped and replaced some thirteen years ago, and he finds that only the drow present that night, those who were with the Matron Mother know what would have happened to the body. Thus, speaking with the dead spirit about the ritual to transfer the Binding Word of Power, that which holds the tarrasque in its stasis and torpor--this spell may not serve him just yet. He needs to find a way to get Orcafor, or another Binder Lord, alone.
Back near the center, hours before, while Faurwiin still has a few moments to concentrate on a haste spell upon his apprentice Venator, the dark and invisible elf, he that has traversed the planes and returned for the Material Plane's glory and riches--he dances and enrages the remaining 5th House reinforcements, those near their own Seal, that which was taken by the 2nd House. He slaughters a hand full in the process, and he leaves the others confused, thinking some drow has attacked them, again. Venator is no drow. He then teleports away to return to the 11th House, still disguised as a drow, and still invisible until the last few moments.
Back atop the tarrasque, Birdman squaries himself to really see the city, and he even sees Mel's militia move into more of the Throat and Spillway of the city, and as he views these developements in City of Salt, he is met by the small Amu trying to gain better advantage of if and how the beast may have woken up as the alarms had already blared. Here Amu is able to learn the odd fluids from the beast also holds spinal fluid, and the druid is able to intuit and confirm from the godbutchers that indeed an unsanctioned surgery has been performed right under everyone's noses. They decide to return to the Blackwell Tavern, and they discuss the surviving need of the city, and how that should change to the want to live, to have resources to do so. Birdman is distraught from his previous engagements with Pio and Mel, so having a new perspective does allow for Birdman to disengage from the weight of these emotional choices: he only has thirteen hours or so until he is no longer a diplomat and lawyer. Make a choice for more out of life than what this City of Salt provides.
However, this is when the giant, mechanoid eagle that had been soaring above, passing three and four times like a dark shadow from the stars, and it is here the monstrosity lands and makes claim, between the Throat and the Spillway of the City of Salt.
Meanwhile Ssech has escaped the searching of the Godbutchers, and like a shadow hiding from the sun, he finds the walls of the keep just east of the beast, and he yet again begins to destroy the ballistae, giant siege machines designed to strike the tarrasque, to fell it if possible were it to ever rise again. Two are gone, and then he also joins where the eagle has landed, and he sees the spectacle close as he is disguised as a young, red-skinned orc. A performance, and song and dance, and prayer to the dwarven gods, but from some small golden haired gal. She came, climbed out from the chest of the agel mechanoid after it landed.
Killian still fights in the center, and Mel now faces off with the throng of people, of citizens enthralled, scared, and in awe at these new spectacles, but also trapped from behind with the possibility of the great beast awakening.
We finally return to Ventator coming back to the 11th House Tower and they discuss how these moves only complicate their own to protect the city. A distraction at best, and one they intend to thwart and control as best as possible. Lord Gravitas and Lord Venator have other plans for the City of Salt, and they do not need any dwarven confederates to get involved in their plans.
