Scallywags Session 6: The Crash of the Tentacled Ship

General Summary

The session begins with Captain Brimstone  leading the Call south by southwest, following the beach of the southern Chronloc Isle. Just hours before, the crew witnessed a Celestial Event as a fallen ship breaks from the sky above. Thus, the crew splits and Brimstone now can see the smoke of his prize in the distance on the beach but a few thousand feet away. Yet, in just beyond that smoke, around the hedge of a cliff rockface, another smaller orc ship appears, and a race between it and the Call begins. Waves splash upon the hull, and the wind bellows loudly from the inconsistent magic of Teyos Oushos behind the sails, and even with that, the rival ship seems to arrive around the same time as the Call. Thus, a small battle ensues, with one cannon aboard the rival hitting the hull of the ship of the Call, but the Brimstone and Skiff arranging their ship's cannons so that they destroy the single armament aboard the rival ship. With the large explosion and even further lack of visibility, this smaller ship retreats before it incurs more damage.

With that obstacle removed, Brimstone leads his Scallywags and key members of the crew (Gyc, Western Sunrise, Yolov, and Torth) to the beach where they are immediately met and waylaid by a group of three trolls; these giantkin claim first rights to the ship, and the group tries to reason with them, yet in the distance they see fallen boulders jump and shuffle around the debris of the crashed ship. The unease this creates is only heightened by the whispers that begin to emit in the minds about the fallen ship. This forces the trolls to attack, and without the help of the key members of the crew, Brimstone and others may have fallen. Thankfully, the sun petrified one of the stronger ones, and Western Sunrise was able to incapacitate another with his swarm for long enough that Ilknar, Skiff, Gyc, and Rognur could clean up the others. Arduous, nearly a minute long, the fight was finally won, and at that, another psychic presence emits to the group, where Rognur, Torth, and Skiff find themselves lost in their own minds eye, the voices of these strange creatures with the fallen ship creating an intense static of life and death, waves and wind, screams and spells.

These noise do not vex Ilknar nor Gyc enough, and they with Brimstone soon behind, enter into the wreckage of the fallen, tentacled airship. Darkness pervades, but the giantkin enters nonetheless, the voices--the new ones--he ignores for the immediate in his head. He lights a torch, and he first sees the innards of a ship that is also alive, a creature almost and a vehicular apparatus of some sort as well. He moves in closer, and to his left and fight, he finds about a half dozen pools filled with an odd pinky-purple liquid. In five of these, bodies of recently captured sailors remain, unconscious and bound: they are linked to this ship through more tentacles around body and neck.

Yet before he fully process it, and insectoid creature walks down a set of stairs beyond the six pools of pink liquid. It chatters in his mind, and this angers Ilknar, and a new battle begins, with it, the insect, teleporting to be right next to the Call's bosun, Ilknar, and again, before the giantkin can react, the creature magically forms a larger sphere of darkness to encompass the entrance of the fall ship. Yet, with Gyc's aid, they easily slay this demonkin, and go to investigate inside. They free a few sailors, but also are attacked by a strange aquatic creature hiding in the different pools.
Gyc charges forward, rising the steps after be mentally assaulted, and engages alone.
