Familia Petrovna

The Petrovna Family was a noble family of Prime Material Barovia and perhaps remains a noble family of Barovia. In 314, Izabela Dilisnya, the aged matriarch of her line, was assassinated. The crime was blamed upon the Katsky and the Petrovna families. They had been locked in a dispute with the Dilisnyas over the rights to the prosperous (but now played out) silver mines of Mount Gries.  There was also a century of accumulated ill-will between the families. The assassination touched off the [War of Silver Knives ] . It was far less a war than a series of tit-for-tat assassinations that King Barov von Zarovich ordered an end to in 316. Peace was restored, but the distraction and the losses helped pave the way for the Terg Invasion in 320. By the time that Yagno Petrovna was born in 674, the family had isolated itself in the mountains and had succumbed, at to a degree, to the evils of inbreeding.
  • Anna Petrovna - was in love with Ivan Ivanovich. The latter is buried in the catacombs beneath Castle Ravenloft whereas nothing is known of Anna's fate
  • Baroness Lydia Petrovna - wife of Baron Vargas Vallakovich and mother of Victor Vallakovich. A faithful woman, she is sister to Father Lucian Petrovich and a descendant of Tasha Petrovna.
  • Father Lucian Petrovich - he presides over St. Andral's Church in Vallaki and is a priest of the Morninglord. Father Lucian Petrovich is the brother of Lydia Petrovna, the brother-in-law of Baron Vargas Vallakovich, and a descendant of Tasha Petrovna.
  • Ivan Ivanovich – was in love with Anna Petrovna. Ivan is buried in the catacombs beneath Castle Ravenloft.
  • Tasha Petrovna – Buried in Castle Ravenloft
  • Yagno Petrovna - born in Barovia in 674. He had not less than one sister and two brothers. Although bright, he was born with neither the vitality nor the strength typical of his family, and was moreover clumsy and painfully thin. Throughout his childhood and youth, he was bullied and beaten by his brothers. Yagno, among a family that probably had more than its fair share of madness, was himself deemed to be deranged. He both conversed with and trembled before non-existent creatures. One night in 696, he was locked out in the Barovian night by his older brother Yoshtoi. Terrified, he ultimately took shelter in a small cave where he eventually succumbed to exhaustion and sleep.  In the morning, Yagno found the word Zhakata scrawled upon it wall. He imagined that Zhakata was a god that had protected him from the creatures of the night and he entered gladly into the service of the deity. Yagno had found his calling. He build an altar in the cave and began sacrificing animals to Zkakata. Sadly, the word had been put upon the wall by Yoshtoi. When Yoshtoi was murdered by parties unknown, suspicion fell on Yagno, and he may well have sacrificed his brother on that same altar.  There were other disappearances and deaths too, those of Wladomir, the family's oldest retainer, and the shepherd twins Elessi and Evanda, who supposedly committed suicide. In 702, Yagno was caught attempting to sacrifice his sister's newborn to Zhakata and was put to flight.
  • Yoshtoi Petrovna - was born in Barovia in the years immediately prior to 674. He had not less than one sister and two brothers. It had, however, isolated itself in the mountains and had succumbed, at to a degree, to the evils of inbreeding. Yoshtoi was murdered by parties unknown.
