Conversations with Wachter and Vasili

General Summary

Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 4/1/21): Penned in Borokin’s hand, via dictation

Khaylen sat in a chair and made polite greetings to Lady Wockter. I asked her what the imp’s name was, and he started hissing at us. His name was Majesto, and apparently he’s the same imp that Thoradin shot. She admitted that Majesto was her summoned familiar, and she was having him mess with the festival. Normally, when an imp dies, they get sent back to the nine hells, but Majesto is stuck in Barovia. He’s from Avernus. He was summoned a decade ago or so.   Wockter told us she was trying to destabilize the government in Villachi. Supposedly the baron’s father was very harsh, and she hoped his son would be better. However, the man is rather mad. She doesn’t want anarchy, but she wants to fix things. Khaylen agreed.   She told us that the baron had a difficult childhood, and that he was too far gone to get any better. Vargus wants to turn the city into more of an isolationist city   She said that she wanted to take over after the baron is gone. We told her about how we wanted the dress before doing anything else, for O and you. She accidentally misspoke and called you the bride- Ahaha, stop protesting.   Wocker said that she wanted to open up communications between the various towns so that they could aid each other.   Back in the Blue Water Inn, you and Thoradin were chatting. They saw Vasili and Irina. Vasili expressed interest in talking to Letho. Thoradin told him that Letho wasn’t around but could relay the message later. Vasili dismissed Irina and took the group upstairs. Thoradin told Irina that they could give her a ride anytime, and this pissed her off.   Upstairs, Vasili took them into a room and quickly locked the door behind him. He asked Thoradin and you about how well you both knew Letho. You complimented Letho and Thoradin did, too, in his own way. Vasili asked you rather point-blank about the Norgannis thing, as he seemed to know something about it? He also seemed to know something about me? Speaking as to how I had not progressed in my affliction as much as he did.   He talked about how he met Letho. Thoradin believed him and told him of how Letho and I were cursed. Thoradin said that he thought Strahd cursed the two of us. Vasili corrected him and mentioned Norgannis, saying Strahd had a similar curse.   Apparently there’s some temple of amber in the mountains in which slivers of these dark elements are imprisoned. Norgannis and Vampyr are up there, and the vampire is the one who gave Strahd his powers. Apparently, these great dark forces are in some form of competition over who gets to rule this valley. Thoradin asked Vasili as to how he knows all of this information, and Vasili admitted that he wasn’t an accountant for the city, but rather an accountant for Strahd. Supposedly, Strahd isn’t such a monster. It seems interesting that a friend of Strahd would be hanging around Irina? Supposedly, Vasili seems to think that some other vampire is the one hanging around and harassing Irina?   Supposedly vampires are lesser beings than Strahd, and the lord Vampyr.   Thoradin asked what sort of business Norgannis would have with our party. Vasili said that he thinks Norgannis thinks we would do good for the valley, and is seeking to watch us from afar (???) and get to know us better (??????!). I honestly just wish I knew what this supposedly great ancient force of ultimate darkness actually wanted to do with me? All I am is a man, and not even one that is terribly accomplished- what about me could be so interesting to him?   Thoradin told Vasili that he was worried about whatever is up with Letho. Vasili told him that he thinks that Letho may be forced into a conflict with Strahd because of Norgannis’s influence. However, he thought there may be some way to bring him back. Supposedly, the temple could be visited, though that may result in things worsening. I’m sorry, Borokin. Shh, shh. I understand that you are concerned about Letho. I think perhaps there may be some way to deal with this that nobody really understands- I have been able to push away the curse myself. There must be some way for him to do the same.   Back at Wockter’s house. I asked her who’s backing the baron- apparently his own wealth, the town guard, and Izek Strazni. He gave Izek purpose and direction. Wockter implied heavily she wanted to kill him. Zin foot-in-mouthed about trying to sell Wockter out.   Wockter told us that she received a prophecy from Madam Eva that a stranger with a devilish countenance would assist her in this matter.   Wockter seems to be friends with Strahd. She said that the baron did some sort of magic on her daughter? And there’s something involved with his children? She seemed about ready to cry, and Khaylen gave her a hug. They discussed maybe turning out Izek?   I apologized for being so hesitant to help her, but I have my misgivings about just waltzing into a city and murdering people. Khaylen offered to have us stay around late into the night, telling stories, in order to somewhat wind things down. I asked Wockter about the book she was planning on reading for bookclub.
