After the Fight at the Wizard of Wines: Interrogation

General Summary

Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 11/08/20): Penned in Borokin’s hand, via dictation

Thoradin rushed up the ramp to encounter the druid that O had just burned. Their hands were covered in a viscous red good that was dripping from the staff. He complimented her on her skill and asked her about what happened. She enjoyed the compliments.   Khaylen tried to help Letho, but was unsuccessful. She ran up to talk to me, asking me for the potion, which I, of course, did not have. Zin, however, heard things, and ran downstairs with his potion to help Letho. Borokin freaked out and ran downstairs, along with O. Khaylen grabbed my arm and dragged me down.   Zin was able to, just in time, feed Letho a potion.   We all discussed what happened, and decided to take the unconscious, burned druid and tie them up.   You were softly sobbing with worry over Letho, and he asked you for some food and cheese. After eating a large meal, Letho and Thoradin dragged the burned, unconscious druid upstairs to interrogate him, with Khaylen’s help.   Zin, you and I chose to look around the house. Zin took the basement, finding an unopened door and noticing the air seemed to be far cooler than it should have been. He surmised that the cellar had some sort of cooling system- nothing magical, but perhaps something technological. Zin also found the room in which it looks like the business did their bottle-manufacturing. He found a door that appeared to be barred, which piqued his interest. Unfortunately, that just led to the exterior. Another door resulted him   I cast another zone of truth spell upstairs, on the two druids. The conscious one took the full brunt of the spell, but the unconscious one was able to resist. Of the rest of the interrogators, Khaylen was the only one able to lie, which was a bit inconvenient.   Apparently, the spell made everyone hear voices in their heads. Letho told me this is unusual for the spell I cast, but I didn’t notice anything different about how I cast it besides the fact that I cast it in this godforsaken place. Thoradin apparently thought those voices were just some more in the menagerie in his head.   Thoradin resigned himself to looking tough in the background as Letho had to tell some perfectly-true brags about their combat prowess.   Khaylen demanded some info on what the druids wanted. The druid told her that he wanted all of the land. He also claimed that there was nobody in the house when he took it. She tried to get information out of the druid about where the missing family went, but the druid stated they had no idea. Thoradin responded by punching the guy in the face.   Meanwhile, We looked through some of the rooms upstairs. You told me you have no stomach for the “torture” part of interrogations, and I couldn’t help but agree. Somehow we got into discussions about the pros of travelling freely, and you shared with me some… interesting details about how you interpret the phrase “plantsitting”.   The first room appeared to be a childrens’ room. The room had clearly been ransacked, with all of the toys tossed around and tipped over. I saw a piece of fabric under one of the beds. It struck me as rather out-of-place, so I picked it up just in case it happened to have some sort of script on it.   O looked around some of the plant-creature bodies. She saw a lot of… goo. In addition, she looked through some of the barrels, noticing that a lot of them seemed to be mostly empty. All of the barrels smelled of wine, but she couldn’t tell how recently they had been drained. As a teenager, she’s a bit young to be a proper sommelier.   The dining room was also ransacked, but noticeably less so than the children’s room. In addition, I found a trail of breadcrumbs leading across the floor to the pantry, where there was a bag ripped open spilling out chunks of oat-cakes. Those cakes had bites taken out of them- human-sized ones. As far as I could tell, though, there was no reason to assume that the cakes weren’t just related to something rather innocent.   Switching over back to the interrogation, Letho- uhh… He mentioned to me that he did what he had to, given that he couldn’t lie. Apparently knives can’t really tell untruths. He started singing at one point, and the voices in his head telling him not to lie eventually receded.   The emptiness in him seemed to recede… slightly. And he said he saw the color red.   I’m sure you heard the noise.   Everyone seemed to be fine with what was happening.   Perhaps I am weak. I certainly won’t speak ill of your mentor- I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.   O and Zin met up and regrouped. Zin theorized that the wine supplies may have been low, as the vines outside didn’t seem to be doing very well. Some of the empty vats seemed to be for fermentation. Zin wandered around the vats, finding that some of the vats had an odd, sickly-sweet smell. One didn’t.   He tried to figure out what was happening- pouring out some wine into a barrel. Once it was mostly full, he detected the faint whiff once again of the sweet smell.   You and I went into the master bedroom. The headboard on the bed was shaped like a raven, probably the source of the nickname the druids gave the inhabitants. There were some papers on the desk- you said they were some sort of sales records, so I pocketed them in preparation for maybe using them to try and trace where the vineyard owners may have went.   Unfortunately, there was a chest in the corner, locked enough that I had to get Khaylen. From the sounds in the hallway, I wasn’t looking forward to what I would find upon encountering her.   While Zin was looking through the barrels, O noticed a flicker of movement through the shutters of one window. She peered through the shutter, noticing that, hidden behind one of the outbuildings, a hooded figure stood. They seemed like they were trying very hard to not be detected.   O ran to talk to Zin. They regrouped and opened an exterior door. O came face-to-face with an elderly, robed man. O tried to shut the door, and he begged her not to. He said his name was Davien, and claimed to live in the house. O recalled the name as being that of the bartender’s dad.   #TODO: Investigate the sales records #TODO: Investigate the druid vial
