Character Creation Rules

Available Races and Classes

All classes are available as long as they are in published material. Races however have been restricted to better reflect the realm of Ravenloft and maintain the horror theme. Unearth Arcana is not allowed. Please be sure to check out the Homebrew section to see what additions were added.

Attributes

Use the standard 27 Point Buy system to create your characters. Highest number being 15 and lowest being 8, not including racial modifications.

Racial Bonus

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything released a feature called Customizing Your Origins . This allows your characters to move their racial bonuses around as well as change racial proficiencies. This is permitted and you may utilize it to the fullest extent.

Backgrounds from the main source materials are available to use:

• Sword Coast Adventuer's Guide
• Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft

Starting Level

Your character begins at level 3 with one feat of your choosing. This implies that Variant Humans will recieve two feats.

Starting HP

Your Character will have max HP from level 1 to 3. After that, you may either choose to take the avereage or roll when leveling up. If you choose to roll, please roll in the Downtime Rolls channel on the discord and inform the new HP along with all the new features, spells, ASI or feats that your character acquired along the way.

Optional Features

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything's offers different features that replace original Player Handbook features. These are optional, for example, the Favored Enemy Ranger trait can be replaced by the Favored Foe Ranger feature if you so desire.

Alignment

Leave your alignment blank. Alignment is only a reflection of your character's actions not what dictates them. It will not be filled in for this Adventure.

Carry Capacity

Roll20 has a very useful calculator for carry capacity. We will be using variant encumbrance so be mindful when you pick and choose what equipment to take on quests.

Starting Equipment

You begin with all of your character's starting gear as well as 125gp.

Leveling Up

We will be using the Milestone method for leveling up. When you do level up you can Multiclass if you like, as well as take Feats instead of Ability Score Increases if you want.
