Boleka

The Bol are from the land known as Boleka (bole-ee’-ka), a land south and east of Parensatia. Not much is known about the Bol, as even in the more common interactions they have with other cultures (such as the gold and ivory trade they have established with Parensatia and Qinqella), they do not speak about their homeland or customs. It is almost as if they are under oaths to keep silent to others. What is known is that the land of Boleka has a vast array of geoforms, from deep jungle, to salt lakes, to grassland savannah, to desert, and it seems that the Bol inhabit it all (and little is known about how far off the map “Boleka” stretches. There seem to be different customs and clothing styles from different Bol, sometimes even in the same group, suggesting that perhaps the Bol are made up of many distinct cultures, either as an empire or an allied group of tribes. By and large, the Bol are dark skinned, with some notable exceptions, and many also seem to have a high cultural regard for body piercings in a similar vein to the Silesians and Dendarrens, though if it serves some other purpose than simply beautification, it is not known. Due to their guarded sharing of information about their lands and cultures, this has led many tall tales to spring up around their culture among the Parensatians and Vistarans, with everything from a sorcerer king who rules the Bol from his seat in a golden palace in the heart of the jungle, to every Bol has the ability to shapeshift into some animal from their homeland. None of this is likely true, and, in fact, all signs point to an extremely complex society that is confident in its own way of life and doesn’t want interference from other kingdoms who might want access to their seemingly vast gold and ivory reserves.
