Cossack - Ranger
Cossack - (Ranger Subclass)
Master of the Steppes
The Cossack is a ranger who has honed their skills in the harsh tundras and steppes, becoming an expert in mounted combat and survival. They are fiercely independent warriors, known for their exceptional skills in scouting, tracking, and engaging enemies with precision. Their bond with their mount and the environment around them allows them to outmaneuver and outlast their foes.
Mounted Warfare:
At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in mounted combat. While you are mounted and aren’t incapacitated, you gain the following benefits:
• You have advantage on melee attack rolls against any unmounted creature that is smaller than your mount.
• You can force an attack targeted at your mount to target you instead.
• If your mount is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw and only half damage if it fails. Additionally, you gain proficiency in Survival and Animal Handling if you don’t already have them.
Tundra Scout:
At 5th level, your experience in the tundra and steppe has made you an expert in tracking and evasion. While traveling for an hour or more in the wilderness, you and your companions are not slowed by difficult terrain, and you cannot become lost except by magical means. You also gain advantage on all Wisdom (Perception) checks to detect creatures in tundra or steppe environments.
Mighty Eagle of the Steppe
At 7th level, you form a bond with an eagle, a loyal companion that aids you in scouting and combat. The eagle uses the stats of a hawk but has the following additional benefits:
• Keen Sight: The eagle has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
• Eagle’s Eyes: As an action, you can see through your eagle’s eyes until the start of your next turn, during which you are blind with regard to your own senses. While looking through your eagle’s eyes, you have advantage on Perception checks that rely on sight.
• Aerial Strike: On your turn, when you take the Attack action, you can command your eagle to make an attack as a bonus action. The eagle's attack deals 1d4 slashing damage, and it can deliver this attack while flying. Your eagle companion obeys your commands as best it can. It acts on your turn, and you can command it to move or take an action using your bonus action. If the eagle dies, you can revive it using the same rules as the Ranger’s Beast Master archetype, or you can bond with a new falcon after 8 hours of work and 25 gp spent on supplies.
Tundra Survivalist:
At 11th level, your mastery of survival in the harshest environments becomes unparalleled. You gain the following benefits:
• Unyielding Endurance: You and your mount gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier + your ranger level whenever you finish a long rest.
• Cold Resilience: You and your mount gain resistance to cold damage.
• Survival Expertise: You have advantage on all Wisdom (Survival) checks made in tundra or steppe environments. Additionally, your eagle’s Aerial Strike now deals 2d4 slashing damage, and the falcon has advantage on attack rolls against creatures that are at least one size larger than it.
Cossack's Fury:
At 15th level, your ferocity in battle is unmatched, especially when mounted. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack while mounted, you can deal an extra 1d8 damage to the target. If you score a critical hit while mounted, the extra damage becomes 2d8. Furthermore, when your eagle is within 60 feet of you and you make an attack, you can use your reaction to command your falcon to make an attack against the same target. This attack is made with advantage and deals an additional 2d4 damage.
