Deshreti

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Holders of an intense and mystic reverence toward hairlessness, most of the Deshreti shave off their eyebrows and, instead, paint them on using various shades of yellow or black. Further differentiating from their northern neighbors, the Deshreti hold many religious beliefs around felines, most households allowing stray cats inside to be fed and watered for good luck. Hairless cats are treated as small deities, each believed to be a parent to New God Sult, who is depicted in art as nursing from a large, hairless feline.   It is also understood that this affinity comes from the reality that the lower half of Sult is a black, hairless cat.

Historical figures

Led by the ferocious New God Sult, the Deshreti are a culture prizing the divinity of Karkur and its inhabitants, their borders expanding east after the reawakening of Sult from his bi-yearly wakemoon. Advantageous and strategic, Sult is a well-known opponent of New God Ruuben, who was birthed from the Lygos Sea bordering Sult's augury. Unlike his northern sister, Sult is known as a well-behaved warmonger, favoring aggressive military standards over peacekeeping and encouraging a culture of proud, courageous Deshreti by ordering the construction of humongous statues in his likeness.   Following his wakemoon, New God Sult has continued to expand Karkur's borders around the humongous Valley of Kings, a black desert stretching for miles south of Deshret. Revered as the birthplace of their beloved New God, the Valley of Kings is referred to as a holy land for the Deshreti, who believe the desert to be the resting place for sundried souls awaiting Sult's judgment. It is recorded that Sult himself has spoken of a vast ocean beneath the black desert and, beneath that, an expanding cosmos acting as the gateway into the afterlife.
