The Gods of the Arearis

The majority of Syron and much of Khuul belongs to the Arearic Religion. In the Arearic tradition, the gods each wear a name of their main function and deeds (called the common name) as well as one similar to those of humans (called the divine name). For the latter are often hard to memorise, they are almost solely referred to with their common names by the ordinary people. Scholars and acolytes, on the other hand, tend to gravitate towards the divine names.

The Main Deities

Harmony - Amaanaleia

One of the most important deities of the realm, Harmony is considered as a powerful goddess of balance, order and discipline. She is considered opposite, but never enemy to Chaos, defined by him and shaping him; their paths entangled.   Most often, Harmony is depicted as a woman dressed in white, standing tall in a mostly simple but clean attire that only shows slight ornamentation. The colour of these clothes strongly contrast with her dark, almost black skin and her hair arranged in five thick braids settled on her shoulders and back, weighted down by golden rings.

Chaos - Rhoedynn

The pair of Harmony, Chaos is the god of unruliness, spontaneity, chance and art. Along with Harmony, he is one of the powers that constantly change the face of the world. On statues and in various pictures, he is shown as a pale man of golden hair, dressed in black, layered, textured clothing.

Life - Dolocar

Life is the burly, good-hearted god of the living and the other world. He is responsible for graveyards and rituals concerning the dead, for sustaining life, and partially for marriage. He often represents joy, and living life at the fullest. He is almost always painted with a shield in hand.

Turning - Aar-Ilacha

Turning is a goddess both feared and respected by the people. She is the circumvent, thoughtful lady of the changes in one's life: death and birth. Partially, she also aids mariages. She is the patron of soldiers, mothers and midwives, the judge of murderers, and she decides when to save a life and when to let it parish. Her divine plans are hard to understand, but she is known for her careful consideration.   Her priests are often serving as judges in addition to being acolytes. They attend trials concerning homicide or any case that may end in a death sentence. They are defenders or accusers according to their own convictions and information, but - on rare occasions - Turning speaks through them, changing the direction of the trial. It is said that many lives have been saved by the agents of Aar-Ilacha.   Holding a lantern is one of her main attributes in depictions. As moths and butterflies are thought to believe her symbolic beings, some people connect her to the néigh-abal- whether that means a positive or a negative association linked to the 'evening kin'.

Wit - Talla Aalúr

A goddess of common sense, craftyness and trickery, Wit is always eager to play harmless pranks on people and divines alike. Many mythical tales say that her and Knowledge cannot seem to get along. Legend has it, Wit was the one who convinced Chaos to give Halflings their exceptional luck. She is often prayed to by performers, swindlers and the common folk who are just trying to get by using the skills provided by the juvenile divine. On artistic depictions she is almost indistinguishable from a commoner.

Experience - Moeron'doal

He is the divine lord of learning through interaction, through trial and error, through gradual improvement. He is most often imagined as an elderly man, but occasionally even depicted as an old, rough bear, and his symbolism often contains spirals.

Knowlegde - Forak Hiyn

The elegant lord of meticulous studies, facts, plans, and consciousness. He is also associated with the arcane arts, with books and with scholarly doings. Him, or his symbolic animal, the wolf is often shown on the facades of libraries, academies, and other institutions of learning.

Wilderness - Shawalla

She is usually shown as a strongly built woman, barefoot, with cat-like yellow eyes and messy hair trailing to the ground. She is a symbol of independence, of nature, animans and beasts, instincts and growth. She is believed to be short-tempered and passionate. ahe watches over hunters, druids and the creatures of the natural world.

Love - Thúran Anyl

Anyl, as opposed to the other gods, is no woman nor man. Their power spreads far and wide, protecting families, friends, lovers, all units of love and compassion.   In myths, it is said that Love was sibling to another god, Compassion, but the latter was killed by the Breach in the Battle of the Crooked Spire. It is said, that Anyl was changed by the events, and when the gods emerged victorious, they took Compassion's responsibilities upon themselves. Thus, they now wield the name Thúran Anyl.   Love has many temples around the world, but one of their most known places of worship is the monastery of Gael Sínne. They are one of the gods who do not expect an oath of purity from their monks.

The Breach

The Breach is the evil force constantly shifting, weakening or growing stronger throughout history. It undermines the work of the gods, tainting love with envy, life with pain, chaos with anarchy. Breach lives off of the broken pieces it manages to tear from the world and the order of the gods. Noone knows exatly why it strengthens in certain eras, but some say it is the mortals turning away from the gods, obeying and serving the Breach with their deeds.
