Syron

Since the establishment, circa eigthhundred years ago, the Realm of Syron has kept its territorial integrity. It is ruled by monarchs, though the Council in Royonne have been a power in case the king or queen was not suitable for ruling.

Geography

Much of Syron's power lies in its excellent location. On the western border lie the Roaring Wilds, a dense forest feared by many. Even if it would be excellent cover for a marching army, none is able to cross the dark woods buzzing with monsters, hostile plants and strange magic.   To the South, a small grassland is not much of a boundary, the realm has no immediate neighbours. No Man's Land lies along those territories, the harshness or which does not leave room for an emerging power. The East is mountains, which not only provide natural resources and rare minerals, but natural defense. The neighbouring dwarven settlements are known to be loyal to the realm, and especially so since Farozier and Royonne provide an enthusiastic enough market for their goods and craft.   The Northern part is spotted with lakes and lined with rivers. Though these may be crossed, and the road leads right to the capital, Royonne itself lies in the embrace of a small semi-circle of a mountain range.

History

The territory of Syron was not always as densely populated as it is at the present day. Before one of the Twin Suns was estinguished, it used to be too hot for most human population - only a couple of Wild Elf tribes and the Dwarves found it fitting fort living -, and the northern parts of Badoen were holding most of the continent's inhabitants. Only, when Uvera's light went out and the North became freezing cold, did the area gain special importance, and war started for the fertile lands.   With the peace treaties and agreements, Syron became a fragmented series of lordships and city states. Unsurprisingly, these fragments have proven to be perfect prey to the powers of the Roaring Wilds. Whole villages and towns were abandoned, or their population was slaughtered overnight, leaving only a couple survivors. Mistrust grew between the city states, each blaming the other, suspecting border disputes where there were supernatural forces at hand.   The are was on the verge of another war, when one of the rulers suggested an order of knights tieing the best warriors from all around the area together in a mission to protect the western borders. And so it was established, serving with success the purpose that was given to it. After the struggle of decades, the united forces of the fragments were able to drive out the creatures from the grassland, pushing them deep into the forest. They issued a magic barrier to keep the darkness at bay. After their security was established, the rulers agreed on joining their forces and creating the Realm of Syron.   Centuries later, they waged war with the Dwarves, though both parties unable to hold considerable territories for long. Barantiir could not be taken, the mountains were impossible to pacify, and the Dwarves were too stubborn to give their homeland up. On the other hand, Syron was strong and their partnership in trade too valuable to continue the fight. Finally, the issue was resolved. The Dwarven territories became - formerly - a part of the Realm while maintaining most of their autonomy.   Most recently, Syron gained further territories from Khuul, this time, not only threatening their access to valuable minerals, but to water itself, making the small state wither. Some say, this will be enough to force Khuul into yielding to the Realm once and for all.
