Voda Slova

Voda Slova is a Santeemite drinking game for two or more players. It is sometimes called the Questions Game, Words or Water, or "What the fuck is up with that?".

Description

Voda Slova is a Santeemite social drinking game that functions mostly as an icebreaker to get to know the other players better.   The game is popular in the Santeem Republic, which is where the Santeemite slang name for the game, "Voda Slova", meaning "words or water", comes from.   As a Santeemite game, familiarity with it has spread on Santeemite ships and expeditions, including military and merchant vessels, as well as the numerous Santeem Republic aid caravans. By the early Fifth Age, the game was ubiquitous enough to be played and recognized outside of the Santeem, including in northern Tarteria.   Due to the easy to understand rules, it is assumed that other cultures in Azimuth have similiar games or different names for the Santeemite version of the rules.   Demitri was familiar with the game and used it as an interrogation tactic during his time working under Adamski Sokolov, and Captain Ruslan recognized the game quickly when it was played by the Lightbringers.

Game Mechanics

To play Voda Slova, at least two players need access to drinks. Usually this is alcohol, though children versions of the game use non-alcoholic beverages.   Participants take turns asking each player a question about themselves. Common questions include details about a player's past, future plans, and opinions.   When a player is asked a question, they must either answer the question truthfully or they can choose to take a drink of their beverage instead of answering. Play then proceeds to the next player.   In most games, these tended to be considered soft rules, and questions would end up being asked out of sequence as topics were discussed and follow up questions were asked.   There is not a solid ending point for the game, and it would often continue until the players chose to end the game or became too drunk to continue.

History

The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
5A 352
On 3 Adroth 5A 352, the Lightbringers ate brunch at the Glistening Hog Tavern in Porgorag. Demitri asked the group if they’d like to participate in a drinking game and introduced them to Voda Slova to spur conversations and ask questions of each other.   On 5 Adroth 5A 352, some of the Lightbringers played another few rounds of Voda Slova while the Santeem Republic aid caravan was camped the Orc Highway. The game broke apart after an argument started between Arwin and Romsca.   On 11 Adroth 5A 352, while camping north of New Keeleon, Mortimr initiated a round of Voda Slova as an excuse for the Lightbringers to ask him questions about his magic and allow him to examine the Eight-Pronged Residuum Ring.
