Blood Oyster Moss

Blood Oyster Moss is a large spreading moss native to the Underdark. It consists of bundles of small, identical plants grouped together in colonies. The plant matter is useful for its healing properties and can be distilled for use in health potions.

Description

Blood Oyster Moss is a colony consisting of multiple smaller plants grouped together in a single 'colony'. Though the individual pieces making up the larger plant are small, they are connected through a sticky, red liquid and tethered together by roots.   Visually, each colony is a vibrant, cherry red, multi-limbed plant mass. The central mass is round and large, with several limbs that reach out and tether it to a wall or surface. Along the ridges of the limbs are black seams or folds that go across the elevated ridge. Thin root tendrils branch out and connect multiple colonies together.   The plant is native to the Underdark and thrives best in dark, cool, and wet environments. It tends to root in places away from lots of activity from other creatures. The plant can spread by reaching root tendrils to form new colonies, and it can also spread seeds through the air to form distant, separate colony groups.

Usage

Blood Oyster Moss can be distilled into a waxy substance, which is useful in crafting health potions.

History

The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
At some point, a Blood Oyster Moss colony took root in the Highland Hills Cistern. By 5A 352, Aramish was using this colony to craft health potions sold at Gralphank's Ten-Foot Pole Emporium.   On 20 Adrtoh 5A 352, the Lightbringers reached the Highland Hills Cistern. After defeating several otyughs, Romulus used a Speak with Plants spell to converse with a moss colony, which sounded like a chorus of many voices. The group was able to gather a colony of the moss for Aramish.   On 21 Adroth 5A 352, Chaka contacted Aramish and convinced her to tend to a new colony of the moss they were trying to grow at the Rill Priory.
