The Laws of the North of the Neck: A Summary
Punishment for a crime can include one or more of the following, based on the nature of the crime, who or what the crime is committed against, and the criminal record of the convicted:
Conscription (for a period of 1 year on the first offense, 5 years on the second, and indefinitely on the third)
Hard labour (for a period of weeks, months, or years depending on the seriousness of the crime)
Flogging (a set number of strokes)
Fine (payable to the closest city at time of the crime; inability to pay a fine leads to hard labour)
Exile (for a number of years, or indefinitely)
Damages (payable to the injured party or victim’s kin; inability to pay damages leads to imprisonment and/or hard labour)

Assault: damages and a month of hard labour
Arson: hard labour up to 20 years and quadruple damages and/or fines plus 5,000 gp
Murder: conscription or hard labour up to 10 years
Brandishing or use of weapons within a settlement: hard labour up to a month, and/or fine up to 20gp
Espionage: fine up to 2,000 gp and exile for minimum 20 years
Treason: two terms of conscription, quadruple damages, and flogging
Sabotage of resources: fine and/or damages totalling up to triple the value of sabotaged resources and conscription
Theft: damages up to double the stolen item and/or hard labour for up to 2 months
Slavery: two terms of conscription, damages up to 1,000 gp per year of slavery
Vandalism: damages and/or hard labour for a week
Against an Official
Blackmailing: flogging and 1 year hard labour
Assaulting or impersonating an official: damages and hard labour up to 10 years or conscription
Magic to influence: damages and conscription
Bribery or atempted bribery: hard labour up to 1 year and fine up to double the bribe amount
Theft: damages up to triple the stolen item and/or hard labour for up to a year
Modifying a document: up to 1,000 gp in fines and/or hard labour up to 10 years
Any crime committed while serving hard labour has a minimum punishment of 1 year's conscription.
Any crime committed while conscripted has a maximum punishment of death.
This summary document does not include all punishments or acts recognised as crimes, and the absence of a crime from this document does not prevent conviction of said crime.
