Orman Forest Cat
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Orman forest cat is a long-legged domesticated house cat that originated in the forests of Orma. It has a sleek body and large, pointed ears. Its claws are retractable, like most cats' claws, and its tail is the same length as its body.
Genetics and Reproduction
A typical female forest cat may have one litter of kits every two years, and will take two years to raise each litter. Litters may have as many as five kits, or as few as one. The mother cat will defend her kits until they are weaned at six months, after which point she will teach them to patrol and hunt with her until she sends them on their way at two years of age.
Growth Rate & Stages
Human breeders will typically remain close to the mother and her kits, mainly providing care to the mother, but will not interact directly with the kits until they are weaned at six months. From that point forward, they will receive training from the breeders but will still live with the mother until they are two years of age.
Ecology and Habitats
The Orman forest cat originally came from the deep forests of Orma, where a wild cousin of the species still thrives. The domesticated type is highly adaptable and thrives in any environment where it can get the food, shelter, water, and enrichment it needs.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The forest cat needs a diet of raw meat in order to thrive, and cannot survive long on any other type of diet.
Behaviour
Orman forest cats are fiercely loyal and highly territorial. They make excellent guardians against pests and intruders, and will protect their owners with their lives if needed.
Additional Information
Domestication
The forest cat was originally domesticated by forest communities within Orma to guard the community from outsiders and from dangerous pests that ate the community's foods or attacked infants. Over time, this domesticated species became a pet for nearly every household in Orma, and it began to be exported as pets to others outside the country.
Facial characteristics
The eyes are usually brown or green, surrounded by dark markings.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Orman forest cats can be found as pets in households all over Ayrith - for those who can afford the high importation price. Only neutered males are sold as pets so that the breeding trade may remain within Orma.
Average Intelligence
These cats are considered one of the most intelligent cat species in Ayrith.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
This cat can see perfectly well in the dark and has exceptional hearing. This allows the cat to be used not only for a pet and a rodent killer, but also as a defender of the home or other properties.
