Genitor (jen-ih-tor)

The Halcyon City of Everyn, long known for its peaceful ways, elected a leader from among the ranks of the city's nobility. This leader served as the mayor of the city-state and was a model of virtue for the citizens to look up to. When the system of government was created in the second century 2A, the aristocrats wanted the very title of the position to evoke the virtuosity of the leader. The first title they came up with Exemplar, but this only lasted twenty years before it was updated to Genitor.   The word Genitor itself means parent or guardian, and the leadership of the city chose this title for several reasons. They wanted to show that the leader cared for and wanted to both nurture and protect the citizens, as a parent would. But they also wanted a gender- and race-agnostic term to encourage everyone to strive for the position no matter who they were (as long as they were part of the aristocracy). The group of aristocrats was always growing and was not exclusionary, so there was a sense of hope and ambition for average people to achieve success.   No one is quite sure if this position still exists or will come back at any time in the future. The current leader of the city is the king of the Dumein Dominion, after that kingdom conquered Everyn during the recent war. The king inserted himself as the leader of Everyn, without consulting the aristocrats or the city's people, and in the five years since it is unclear how he plans to govern the city going forward. Currently, there is a Mayor of the city, appointed by the king, who tries to run the city's government. The aristocrats and the people of Everyn are clamoring for a return to their traditions and culture, and even the king's allies in the aristocracy are frustrated with his blatant disregard for the city's self-governance.

Requirements

All candidates for the position of Genitor must be from the city's aristocracy, which is an open and always growing group of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. All aristocrats endeavor to outwardly display their benevolence and virtuosity, and only the most exemplary of these become Genitor.
