Fort Rohesia (roh-hees-yuh)

Fort Rohesia is located in northeastern Skerritt, not more than a day's ride outside Eastcastle. Along with Fort Aline, Rohesia watches the northern mountains to protect against roving bands of raiders seeking treasure and glory in Skerrittese lands. These parties out of Legoba and the Legobar Mountains come at least once a year in varying strengths, and Skerritt realized long ago that some fortification was necessary to prevent these parties getting too far into the kingdom. Fort Rohesia is, therefore, far older than the three border forts along the Hiram River, having been built around 1000 years ago and modified/updated slightly in the centuries since.
Fort Rohesia plays host to a battalion of troops around 1,200 strong, plus a few hundred support personnel such as tavern keepers, smiths, etc. The forces in Fort Rohesia can respond to threats quickly due to its location: it takes a little more than one day to march the battalion to the foot of the mountains, if trouble comes from there, and Fort Aline is only 2-3 days march away. The proximity of Eastcastle (less than one days hard march) provides the city with a strong sense of security and is almost certainly the reason Eastcastle has not felt the need to build a perimeter wall in the eight centuries since it outgrew its initial perimeter fortifications.
