Caladrem Confederation (cal-uh-drehm)
The island of Caladrem is home to a loose collection of cities and towns that have somewhat united to form a kingdom of common interest. There is very little that formally binds the cities and towns of the Confederation together, other than a common interest in securing trade for their people. They do not provide for common defense, and other than trade and economic issues they don't even attempt to make common policies that affect all settlements and people, preferring instead to leave the that up to each town and their people.
Foreign Relations
Historically, relations between the individual towns that now make up the confederation and the nearby city-state of Yuan have been extremely fractious, on account of the yuan-ti raiding caravans and the settlements themselves for slaves and sacrifices to their god. The last few centuries has seen this tension die down, as the towns have gotten better at defending themselves and the snake people have turned their slaving and capturing activities to the sea. Now, there are a few foreign visitors and traders that are allowed in Yuan, and even a few that have settled there permanently. Time will tell if this streak of openness and liberalism in Yuan will last, or if the newfound citizens will come into the same fate so many of their ancestors did.
