The Mountain is a Giant, Maybe

Now that I have a closer look at this unusually green ice, I'm having second thoughts about climbing this mountain.
— Steward Icerun, Mountaineer

Overview

There is a belief that the Groene Ijskap Mountain is a sleeping stone giant, waiting for the next great disaster to come before awakening. This mountain is located in the Assai Mountains. The mountain is identifiable by the great green glacier that caps the mountain.   No one knows the true name of this stone giant, though a common one is Raev. Many of the surrounding towns offer tokens and sleeping incense on the slopes of the mountain so that the giant will continue its peaceful slumber.

Why this Mountain?

Some claim to see various features that could only belong to a stone giant. Some also claim to have heard faint snoring sounds carried on the mountain wind. There are even stories about mountain climbers suffering great wounds while climbing the mountain. These wounds they claim are inflicted by the still sleeping Raev.   Hired investigators have surveyed the mountain and find these claims to be dubious. They could not conclusively identify any feature of the mountain as belonging to a stone giant (granted, stone giants are hard to identify until they move). Still, that has not stopped the surrounding towns and villages from believing in the myth. Some now believe that rather than the entire mountain being a giant that the giant sleeps underneath the glacier hidden from view.

Why is the Glacier Green?

When water is filled with many things it can start to look green. This type of water must have flash-frozen on the peak of Groene Ijskap Mountain. How that water got there is a bit of mystery, but largely attributed to the The Great Collapse and the effects of wild magic.

What will Raev Do?

When the stone giant Raev awakens it will trample the earth with fury. That's the current thought surrounding this myth anyway. As for why the giant wants to destroy, everyone has their own opinion. The most popular story is that this world is not the giant's home, and that it destroys out of great fear. When the giant had reshaped the land during its rage, something that contributed to the damage of the collapse, it grew greatly weary and has slept ever since.   Another common theory is that the giant is a malicious entity that has always been here, but was unearthed during the collapse and that the same event had cast a great sleeping spell on the giant.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

If there really is a giant on that mountain, then all of us should leave the mountain alone. - Archivist Edward
