Mesa City of Granite's Will

There are many fine building materials one might use. But stone is unparalleled! It can last through the ages...
— Rock Stonedweller, Stone Mason

Overview

A people somewhere and sometime took a tall mesa and carved a city all around its base. The city is known today as Granite's Will among other names. It's true name has been forgotten.   Why they did it, none can say for sure. Perhaps it was a vanity project, a monument to last the ages. Perhaps they had great reason to create something out of solid stone. Perhaps they had a more practical reason for doing so. Maybe it was for the same reason the Carved Citadel of Aevi was created. Whatever the reason, somewhere a massive mesa hides within it a venerable labyrinth of carved stone passages that may hide many astonishing secrets. At least that's what the legend claims.   It is said that this city extends into the mesa as well, though one wouldn't know it looking at from above. Like many ancient works, it has been lost in the chaos of The Great Collapse and may never be seen again.

Possible Locations

The only type of place that hide a city like Granite's Will from view would be an inhospitably dry desert. There is the Dulkėtas Dykuma on the Quassus Continent, and the Oniruuru Desert on the Deshret Continent are two highly likely examples. Especially the latter, which nearly takes up its entire continent and could therefore hide many lost things.

A Hidden Treasure Within

As is common with these kinds of myths, it is claimed that highly valuable treasure hides within the ruins of Granite's Will. The exact kind of treasure is up to debate. It could be a secret stash of valuable metals and minerals, it could hold lost arcane knowledge, or even lost technology.

Destruction

Of course it is possible that no one will ever know what secrets the city held. The The Great Collapse could have wiped it off the face of Awldor as it did to so many other less fortunate settlements.

Note(s) from the Archivists

I certainly hope it wasn't destroyed. I plan to find that city someday. - Archivist Bob
