Council of Four

I would be quite interested to hear of any developments concerning magic if you've any to tell.
— Maeva, Wizard of the Silver Mountains
Few are as keenly aware of the dangers, and benefits, of magic as the great mages of our time. Four such mages have agreed to regular discussions on matters involving magic on the Quassus Continent in a council commonly known as the Council of Four, formed as war between the Kingdom of Helia and the Queendom of Lunaria became foreseeable. Rather than act with utmost secrecy found with other mage councils, they seem operate quite publicly. They offer advice to various lords and royalty when a need is present, sometimes secretly depending on the nature of the issue. The advice they dispense have been known to avert conflict, restore crops, and protection against Magic Storms. Activities such as these have gathered both approval and suspicion. On the one hand, their advice appears to be sound. On the other hand, they do only show up just before trying times. This has led to some growing suspicion that the Mages orchestrate incidents to grow their influence. There is no agreed upon why for this suspicion yet all theories point to wanting control. Many, however, believe that the council has merely taken on the role of guardians   This particular council may also be concerned with the activities of the secretive Institute of Lemniscate's Arcana. Lemniscate's Arcana is an organization that may have its origins as far as before the The Great Collapse, and is comprised of truly powerful mages.

Council Membership

Sanev Vensandoral

  • Title: Archmage
  • Species: Elf
Sanev Vensandoral was born in the Silver City of Luna to the Vensandoral nobility and had learned much of the magic arts. However, his curiosity soon could not be satiated by remaining within its metal walls, and so he began traveling the continent to learn more. During his travels he had learned much of magic's benefits, and consequences. He is noted to have studied Magic Malaise, a condition in that slowly saps the life out of an unfortunate magic user, and found a cure for it. He has thus earned some reputation as one concerned with healing, though cures form only a part of his interests and talents. He has described himself as an archmage, though his talents indicate that he is a sorcerer.   Sanev's attire are usually quite noble in appearance and are appropriately reflective of his upbringing.

Wallis

  • Title: Wizard of the Occulus Sea
  • Species: Human
No is quite sure when Wallis' history began. Some records seem to indicate that his lifespan has extended beyond what a human should expect back to the time of The Recovery. Others say that Wallis is an alias adopted by various wizards throughout the current eon. Whatever the case may be, the wizard with the distinctive blue robes will make himself known from time to time warning small towns and villages along the Occulus Coasts to warn them of danger. He is also known to be a key figure in brokering peace between the surface dwellers of the continent with the tritons of the inner sea. There is speculation that his home lies somewhere in one of the underwater villages. Wallis' reasons for preferring to spend his time underwater and not on the surface with most humans is not readily apparent.   As has been stated earlier, Wallis appears to have adopted the colors of the sea for the purposes of attire. His long beard and bushy eyebrows are, however, quite grey.

Maeva

  • Title: Wizard of the Silver Mountains
  • Species: Faun
Believed to spend most of her time in a personal hermitage somewhere in the Silver City of Luna, the wizard known as Maeva seems to prefer spending her time obtaining and consulting any text concerning magic. When she visits a settlement it is almost always because the local library obtained or made new texts on the subject of magic. Perhaps it is no surprise then that she is best known around the people of the Queendom of Lunaria, where magic is practiced and studied daily.   Her silvery-blue robes are does help her to blend in with the Lunarians, but can be quite distinctive elsewhere. Her horns have the appearance of being frost-tipped and are adorned with mountain-side imagery.

Rahma Kaur

  • Title: Sorceress of Fire
  • Species: Human
Some have a natural affinity for a certain element, as is the case with the sorceress known as Rahma Kaur. She had a certain fascination with fire from an early age, which led her to experiment with fire. Some of these experiments did cause some damage and some consternation of the people of the Garden Town of Oazė located in the Dulkėtas Dykuma. When her natural talents in magic began to manifest, and the risk of fires at the same time, she was sent to the eladrin archmage Vacelle for training. Rahma eventually mastered her abilities but not before she nearly burned down the entirety of Vacelle's garden. She has since traveled the continent looking for other sorceresses to assist and train. Perhaps she intends to form her own sorceresses lodge in the foreseeable future.   Rahma would appear to many to have taken her interest in fire to heart if her appearance is any indication. Flame-red and orange robes with long flowing hair to match.

Medallion of the Four

Like all wise councils, the Four have a method to prove each other's identity. A special medallion which each of the four can only procure on demand has set within it runes that can only be perceived by the others of the council. It is a common way for mages to recognize each other, but it has been effective thus far.

Extended Associates

While the four archmages make up the actual council, according to our knowledge at least, they are known to have developed relations with several associates. These associates include people from various backgrounds and disciplines include but are not limited to fighters, monks, scholars, bards, and even other mages. Thus, the actual extent of the Four's network cannot be so readily determined, but it could be extensive.   It is likely that these associations were formed in the course of the Council of Four's efforts to protect and assist various towns and villages from impending magical calamity. Thus, it seems that each of the four can all on a friend almost anywhere on the continent if the need should arise.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

If the Council of Four has any ulterior motive they keep it well. All four have agreed to our interviews when we could find them and were quite content to answer our questions. - Archivist Taenya Naïlo   I wonder why they call themselves a council? - Archivist Edward   The meaning of council includes a group of people coming together to consult, discuss, and debate. I think this is something the Four does. - Archivist Tharivol
