Ancient Ruined City of Submerso

A settlement clearly designed for dry land lying so far away from land raises some questions.
— Curious Eyes, Dungeon Delver

Overview

An The Ancient Order city that lies on a submarine plateau in the Occulus Sea away from the Misty Shore. Its tall crumbling towers remain visible above the water's surface.   While settlements existing within water is nothing new, the Tritons have built many settlements of their own, Submerso has all the trappings of a dry land city. At least that's what the few surviving underwater expeditions were able to discover. It remains a possibility that life between sea dwellers and land dwellers was far more interconnected than previously supposed. This does fit into the current mainstream understanding of the Ancient World: a time when all peoples were unified into a great and prosperous empire. Perhaps Submerso was just a dry land city, and the calamities of The Great Collapse had permanently flooded the entire settlement.   Whatever its history may be, the ruined city's location in the sea is eroding the old settlement comparatively fast to those ruins remaining on land. Much may have been lost already, and still more will surely be gone in the years to come. In the years to come, less and less of the city's great towers will remain above the waves of the Occulus Sea.

I saw the towers for myself once. It happened when I was traveling to Centrum aboard a merchant vessel. I had seen the tall metallic skeletons of the Ancient towers. I had never seen the same kind of towers covered with crystals of crystals glimmering with many colors. The ship's captain refused to go nearer to the site for fear of the dangers lurking near the ruins.
— Artur Neha, Traveler

Crystalline Growths

Covering the remaining surface of Submerso's towers are crystals of various kinds. Some of these crystals have magical properties. The most potent of these crystals lie beneath the water's surface. The growth patterns of these crystals appear to have a point of origin somewhere in the middle of the city, deep within its flooded halls. These harder to get crystals are highly valued in markets across the continent. The more dangerous crystals are even more valuable in secret markets.

Ghosts are found near every grave of the old world. Even wild creatures could not fully pass beyond our realm, so they remain to terrorize the living.
— Thaveith Braverunner Muthalatake, Master Hunter

The Usual Dangers

The sight of the ruined towers above the water looks peaceful. However, Submerso is as dangerous as any other ancient ruin. The wandering and deranged souls of the dead haunt the ruins as well as the reanimated dead. Various kinds of sea corrupted sea creatures also wander within the ruins looking for prey. Ghost Sharks are particularly noteworthy. These dangers are among the many that make a thorough exploration of Submerso a highly difficult and dangerous endeavor.

Ancient Artifacts

No doubt that this large ancient ruin contains several valuable ancient objects. These objects could do much to improve our the growing body of knowledge of the Ancients if someone could get to them.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

I can't help but think that this ancient city needs a more dramatic name than "Submerso." - Archivist Edward
