First Folk

First Folk, The Immortals, The Sidhe   Races: Elves and other Fey   Sumerian, Babylonian and Phoenician feels – layered with celtic mythology and language   Religion: Polytheistic monolatric society (belief in many gods but a major god for each city state) – with the fall of some of these ciities some of the gods died!   Belief in mythic cycles – all this has happened before and will happen again in a different but similar form. We may even get to see events repeat.   Loosely aligned city states   Elves themselves are so long lived they are functionally immortal, but other fey may not be.   Drow are white skinned and have no irises, their long avoidance of light has stopped them making melanin. They are creatures of myth to the humans – known in horror stories as the Sceadugengan (shadow ghosts), children are brought up to fear these apparitions of the dark.   They have been driven harshly from their ancestral lands, whilst a few wood elves and drow will remain in the deep woods, the majority live in Avaritia Minor. Because of their long life, many elves still remember being driven out by the dragons and hold old grudges.   Elves breed and age slowly, their populations remaining small and tightly controlled. Elven females call upon the blessing of the Elvish Goddess of Fertility Astarte, to control their fertility and prevent themselves from bearing unneeded or unwanted children. Mortal women are not so fortunate to have this goddess to call upon and so whether by force or by desire, half elves are not an uncommon sight either in the Elven plantations or the Eastern Coasts. They tend to fit poorly into either world, their tainted ancestry and different experience marking them as other in whatever society, regardless of how their parents felt of them.   The society is predominantly a raiding society – difficult to grow enough to maintain their population on Avaritia Minor and so there are frequent raids out of the Sea of Mists to the coastal regions. Because of their long lifespans, they tend to practice enslavement as a legal punishment. There is always an emancipation clause built in, but for a mortal race a 50 year emancipation clause is practically a life sentence! A lot of the rural work is performed by slaves of various races. You might find a firbolg, a kobold and a human all working together on the same elven plantation.   Main centres Tor Tsur – main coastal city – amid a nest of needle sharp rocks and hidden behind mist banks lies the High Elven capital
